I have noticed that most of the other drivers do NOT have the signal on. So... are you supposed to or not? And can you get stopped for not having it on? I have yet to see that happen.

Yes, technically, you should always use your turn signal, regardless of what lane you're in.
It's unlikely you'd get stopped for not doing it, but an annoyed cop will look for any minor charge to ticket you if you tick him off for something else.

You are supposed to signal, prior to making a turn, within a minimum distance. When in doubt, check the rules of the road for your state.

Depends on where you are, city, county, state. Everyone has different laws and ordinances
A good defensive driver will signal just to let on coming traffic know you are going to make a turn.

I think that you should have it on. It is polite if nothing else. Of course, we all know where you are going, but you should still use it.
Not to mention, what if the guy in front of you wants to get over while you are coming up behind him? This way he knows where you are going.

Yes, legally you must have it on. It's one of those rules that people widely ignore and cops don't seem to care.

you should use your signal when changing lanes but poilce (should) have more important things to deal with
