At his second inaugural address, Abraham Lincoln quoted what is today the motto of the Department of Veteran's Affairs;

"To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan."

Lincoln would be absolutely ashamed if he could see Walter Reed hospital or the way the politicians in this country cut benefits.

I’m a Vietnam Vet, get a monthly service connected disability check, have PTSD and use the VA facilities frequently. Years ago just after Vietnam yes the Veterans Administration was defiantly lacking. In the last 10 years they have improved 1000% yes they can be slow but they are getting faster. New hospitals and clinics are being built with more services being added. Just like with Vietnam they underestimated the need and today more battle injured then ever are being saved because of new technology so the walking wounded are climbing in numbers. You have WW11, Korean, Vietnam and now today’s conflicts/wars racking up the count of millions to be seen at VA facilities. Give them credit for treating the millions but yes we need to remind the ones dishing out the money (Washington) that more is need to keep up the progress the VA has accomplished. Remember nothing is perfect and most all things need improvement.

No. I think he would be dismayed by the VA health care system getting clogged with patients who never had borne the battle. And Walter Reed's problem wasn't one associated with the VA. It was a problem in the Medical Holding Company where those who were no longer physically qualified for active duty were awaiting processing and findings from the Army Disability Evaluation System. The conditions in those barracks was horrible. But, the medical care for the acute-care patient was first-rate. That was the unqualified opinion of all of those who led investigations into the system at WRAMC.
As for the politicians cutting benefits, I'm one of those affected. Even though I did 25 years, I can't get treated at a VA medical facility because I'm Category Eight. That means I earn too much income for VA care. It's O.K. I have Medicare and Tri-Care. That means I can avoid all of the "blanket inventory" battalion who spent two years at Fort Dix or Fort Ord and want their benefits now.

in spite of his incapacity; the previous due President Abraham Lincoln could desire to be turning over in his grave. a minimum of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson has resigned and is leaving with plenty greater appreciate from the government than many different veterans have ever won. that is humiliating to be compelled to beg and grovel for appropriate scientific care featuring greater effective than a team of prescribed drugs. I’ll be happy while President Bush broadcasts that the VA funds is now not a million.15% of the federal funds, however the three.5 p.c. it is going to be.

He won't be the only one who's disgusted with the treatment of veterans and the military as a whole, the thing that sickens me most, is listening to everyone say,"

oh! they signed up for the job, what does it matter if they die or are maimed, they volunteered"

Well BS, I personally think the government should hang their heads in shame PERIOD, for using our son's and daughter's as cannon fodder only to be hammered by the tax man, and what most folk's don't know is, whatever money our troop's do get, has to be used for equipment and supplies, it's a bloody disgrace all round, and I dare any ****** to prove otherwise, I am well aware that they're pay goes up as they go up in rank, but they are still living just above water level, to keep up with inflation, our troop's are treated like $hit, they should be exempt from paying any taxes whatsoever, and they should be supplied with the right equipment free of charge, from the folk's on the hill who play war games from behind a screen or on the end of a phone, pull all stops out now and get this fixed, ASAP, I say. Give them the DIGNITY they have so rightly earned.

"GOD BLESS OUR TROOP'S"

Not only that, but he is looking down in shame for what he has done to this country (and consequently for the world) as he was thought controlled and surrounded by people whom he thought he could trust but was using him for purposes and intentions that he could not possibly forsee at the time.

Note: Lincoln might be buried in the unspiritual city of Springfield Illionois................but intuition tells me that he is still around and waiting, watching to see what happens or possibly forewarning people of what is to come.
