It's definitely not a sin even if you're Catholic, even during lent.

In Jesus' time everyone lived near the sea and everyone fished. Fish was the poor man's food and meat was the rich man's food (times have sure changed huh?). So back when the "no meat on Friday" tradition started, it was a way of humbling yourself to the poor. You ate with the poor.

It used to every Friday of the year until Vatican II changed it to just during Lenten season.

It used to be a Catholic tradition not to eat red meat on any Friday. Then it got changed to not eat red meat on Fridays during Lent. Breaking a tradition is not a sin.

To me, sin means doing something you know to be contrary to the will of God. That means it varies from person to person.

BTW, I generally only eat red meat two or three days a week anyways, but I do it for health reasons.

No it is not a sin to eat meat on a Friday.

My grandmother has shared us a story about her childhood wherein the Spanish Priests / Friars (during the Spanish Occupation in the Philippines) had said that it is a Sin to eat meat on Friday. Her grandfather never believed them (the priests) because they sold tickets or stubs at the church on fridays so you can be exempted or allowed to eat meat and escaping "Sin".

So there. it's a no.

I believe the Bible is the word of God. Does it say eating meat on Friday, or any other day for that matter is a sin? I do not think it does, therefore it is not a sin.

No. There is no mention of Lent in the Bible nor is the forbidding of eating certain foods. The only mention of the practice is in a warning not to forbid certain things and calling the practice false teaching.

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:" 1 Timothy 4:1-4

This verse was a "prophecy" about the catholic church and other denominations that practice these concepts, such as forbidding (the priests) from marrying and abstaining from meats (on Friday during Lent). See any similarities? The Bible says these practices "depart from the faith" and are "doctrines of devils".

When I was much younger in the 60's, my older brother was in the military and he came home on leave after basic and told my mother (we were raised catholic) that a priest said it was ok for him to eat meat on fridays because he was in the service...Well to me as I've gotten older, I've come to realize that I think the bible is nothing more then a interesting book.. It's not that I don't think there's a supreme being..could be alien's from space....haha..maybe...but I don't think a man who is espousing a particular point of RELIGOUS thinking should tell another man what to do or believe

I see nothing wrong with eating meat on Friday's. Some people only eat fish on Friday's. I guess it depends on what you believe in. I have no problem with eating meats on Friday's, or any other day.

No, the Bible never taught that. Meaning GOd never taught that. HE names sin and is real clear about it, and how to overcome in.
To not eat fish on Friday was a man made rule in another RELIGION, We must follow only the full teachings of JESUS in the HOly Bible. Glad you asked.. THANX
