If a woman has breast implants doesn't it make it really hard for the scanner to pick up on any breast tumours? I used to work in a breast cancer unit and the scans from the women with implants were impossible to read because you couldn't see if there was a tumour there or not.
Do you think that (overall) this would mean that women with breast implants were more likely to die from breast cancer as it would be harder to diagnose?
I'm not a professional but I'd be interested to hear from anyone who is any knowledge of this?
thank you

For those who have had mastectomies, I hope, I think that their breast cancer risk would be almost zero in that breast as the breast tissue would have been removed. I too, would like to have an implant in the breast if I had a mastectomy, but as another poster said - health is more important than vanity. Breasts with implants are scanned tho, at least they are in the UK as I've seen them at work but I didn't really get the point of that as there wasn't anything to be seen other than the implants. I'm starting to think now that I wouldn't have breast implants myself (unless I had a mastectomy of course, which is completely different).
