Restaurant? Church? not sure which public you are referring to. I hope I am always like Daniel and pray just like I would in my own home....when I am in public. Not ashamed.

Absolutely not ashamed to pray in public. I figure if he is so kind as to love and forgive me for my many short comings that I in no way shape or form should be ashamed of him.
Teach Us How To Pray
http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/1996/7/15/article_01.htm
"LORD, teach us how to pray." That request was made by one of the disciples of Jesus Christ. (Luke 11:1) The unnamed disciple was obviously a man with deep appreciation for prayer. True worshipers today similarly recognize its importance. After all, prayer is the means by which we gain audience with the Highest Personage in the universe! And just think! The "Hearer of prayer" gives personal attention to our concerns and anxieties. (Psalm 65:2) More important, by means of prayer, we render thanks and praise to God.—Philippians 4:6.

Yes we say a prayer of thanks for our food at home and in restaurants.
For Underground Man: Jesus was not ashamed of the men praying in public. He was proud of the way the tax collector humbled himself before God when he prayed and upset at how prideful the Pharisee was when he prayed.

I dont pray loudly but I do pray in public. It usually happens when I'm in a restaurant waiting for the food or in a doctor's office. I see people with their Bibles, so I guess I'm not the only one.

No,not really. If anything, you should be proud! I mean,if your freidns tease you or something, you can just say,"haha.I get to talk to the most powerful person in the universe!" haha...oh,but dont say the same thing over and over again when you pray. The bible condems that. I mean,if you're gonna do that, you might as well record it on a tape recorder, and replay it everyday! Because, thats about how much that it means to god... He wants us to talk to him.I mean,REALLy talk to him.Pray about your concerns, your troubles, ask for forgiveness, and pray that god may correct this corrupt world.and pray for others, too.
Also, you dont have to pray out loud. You can say a silent prayer, and god still heres you...Nehemiah did id,and so did Jesus. So dont be ashamed to pray in public..i mean, its a great privledge. hope this helps =)

I don't believe in calling attention to myself when I pray in public. I don't think that the act of praying is an appropriate time for evangelism.

We're warned not to pray in public but to do so in private so that we are not hypocrites who pray in public to be seen by man.

No... but I do not make it a practice to do so in"puiblic", if by that you mean among those who do not share my Faith... I do say a short prayer, even in "fastfood" joints, in thanks to God for the food when I eat out. And I have shared prayer with another in time of need in a public setting... but at no time should prayer be made to seem to be "showing off. And if it is a setting where that would, or could be, the preception then I do not do it.

Jesus was ashamed of people who prayed in public, or so it is said as his parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector demostrates.
