If your gov't told you that inteligence reports revealed terrorist cells hiding in your neighborhood, would you agree to door to door searches? How far off do you think we are from this scenario becoming reality?

Of course the inteligence reports would be acurate. . . & search warrents are only necessary on TV. The CIA & DHS don't need 'em.

Ok, for those who answerd that don't fully understand this question, try & use your imagination on this one. No one thinks that a terrorist is hiding, undetected in your house. The gov't has learned of terrorist activity in your 'hood & the question is " are YOU that terrorist?"
Now, for those who would not object to the search. . . I don't suppose you would mind participating in a little enhanced interogation ( ya know, maybe answering a few questions while upside down & under water) just so the rest of us can be sure that your telling the truth

Has everyone already forgotten about the patriot act ? If the gov't decides they need to search your home for terrorists, then you are now a suspect. Under the patriot act, suspected terrorists do not have any constitutional rights ( the key term here is suspected. Just being suspect is enough to relieve you of all your rights. even if you're not a terrorist.) You can be detained and interrogated indefinately with out charges or a trial.

Some of these answers are downright scary. No, I wouldn't agree to door to door searches. How do I know what they are looking for? It would be my word against theirs. The above posts are unbelievable, you can think you have nothing to hide, but they can take you away even if you are hiding nothing, and this is happening today! You people really live in a bubble if you think it's not possible. Wake up before it's too late!

.. Consider the implications of that. Don't you think it would worry a local population if the CIA or FBI started doing door to door searches? Many people would panic, thinking terrorists were living in their neighborhoods and that the government did not know exactly where. I don't think they'd do that unless they knew who they were going after and where they lived. No, this won't become a reality.
At any rate, if you have nothing to hide, I don't see what the problem is. They can ask if they can search your house, and if you agree your rights are not violated, but if you decline they must provide a warrant. If they had credible evidence, why would they not get a warrant and instead attempt to violate your rights?

What a great question! It's frightening to live in a country where the majority seems so willing to give up their rights based on lies and distortions. The ignorant are so easily deceived. As we've already had our Reichstag fire (9/11), the unconstitutional seizure of power by a fascist Executive, and the dismantling of the laws which were supposed to protect us from unwarranted usurpation of our individual sovereignty, proves that all the Constitution and Bill of Rights ever were were a 'parchment barrier'. When the people have become as dumbed-down as they apparently are, we will, ture to the prediction of Ben Franklin, "This [the U.S. Constitution] is likely to be administered for a course of years and then end in despotism... when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government, being incapable of any other."
"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter, and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
Abraham Lincoln
"If fascism ever came to the United States, it would be wrapped in an American flag."
Huey Long
PS. What makes you think that if the State decided to do such searches, it would consult what the public thinks?
PPS. It already is a reality.

I am not a supporter of the war. I hope that you don't mind me commenting, since you asked "Are there any supporters..." I believe our rights should be unlimited until they infringe upon someone elses rights. For example, free speech in school if it disrupts class, infringes on others right to learn, etc. I think the executive brance, (police, military, president, FBI, etc.) may whine about how difficult it is to find terrorists, etc. That doesn't mean we should take away everyones privacy to make their job easier. If we need more police, we should raise taxes and hire more police. With the computer age, we want everyone to be able to sit on their butt including the police. There are those that want to the police to get an email when someone breaks the law. I want to go back to the days where finding criminals is work, but everyone is treated like people at the airport and not criminals. 9/11 happened because terrorism was the biggest threat our nation faced prior to then, and the president failed to emphasize to his enforcement agencies that counter terrorism was his absolute number one priority. I believe deep down he wanted an excuse to get into this war, as exemplified by his repeated use of graphic words, like thugs and murderers. The song "We didn't start the fire" by Billy Joel makes me think of Bush. He didn't start the fire, but when we landed in a tense time, all he did was fan it. Counterterrorism prior to 9/11 should have been a 24/7 vigilant effort, but it could have been much more aggressively managed. I feel good about living in a society where our biggest concern is terrorism. I would be scared to death to live back during World War II, because we were actually at war with world powers. We can't forget how fortunate we are to be at peace with world powers!!!!! The reason terrorism is the tactic of choice is because the terrorist groups are not capable of delivering sustained attacks or defeating our military. Their only method of getting one over on us is to launch an unannounced cowardly attack. Really, Bush needs to quit scarring Americans and remind us of how lucky we are that we are at peace with world powers, insteading of displaying to the world that we are not in this fight whole heartedly. We must look out for them and exercise the free speech we enjoy. Why do I feel like I'm the only person on planet earth that sees the big picture on this one? It is so disheartening.
Remember soldiers are often not punished when they speak out in favor of what we are doing, but almost always punished or at least warned for speaking against anything the military is doing. So, I don't consider that free speech on their part. The media can't even show caskets from the war for crying out loud. I never felt like I had free speech when I was in.

The Bush supporters would let them do anything. They have no value for civil liberties.
First They Came for the Jews
First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Absolutely yes . It's terrorism this country is fighting : within and outside our borders . It's wasn't G.W. Bush who ignored bin Laden's threat of terror to America..it was Bill Clinton..since 1993 .
P.S. Constantreader named much of what Mrs. Clinton already did with herillegal personal compiled FBI files ; and what she seeks to do now with our Internet use ; censoring our radio programs , etc .

Hey there. I have a few things are on my mind.
1.) I am not a Christian, or a theist at all for that matter.
2.) what is hohosexuality?
3.) These homosexuals are not looking for "dates" in bathrooms. They are looking for anonymous sex with complete strangers. Is it any wonder that the STD rates were so much higher for homosexuals until AIDS gave them a wake up call about safer sex?

To those with 'nothing to hide', extend the possibilities here... How about reading your mail before you receive it? How about screening your phone-calls and maybe recording some of them? How about censoring your daily newspaper and TV news so that only wonderful news about the war is provided? How about screening your internet usage and logging down what sites you visit, what you say in forums and chat-rooms and, yes, Answers too? How about getting your medical records and forbidding your doctor from telling you about it? How about installing a listening device in your office or other place of employment? Oh yes...how about denying jobs, preferment or the vote to non-Protestants, non-Christians, or atheists? How about putting all those pesky immoral gay people in stockades? How about banning the prescribing, sales or use of contraceptives?
