Usually, depression is treated with a combination of medication and therapy, however, only your doctor can decide if medication is right for you. I suggest that you make an appointment with your doctor to discuss treatment options.

Therapy can also help you learn to refocus and reframe things in a more optimistic perspective. In addition, a therapist offers support and someone to listen, which are needed by everyone. Personally, I have found the combination of the two useful in treating my depression.

Best of luck to you.

It is believed that depression and mood instability can be hereditary.
There are two different types of depression and you can have either one or both.
One of them is the heredity kind or the chemical kind. Usually that needs to be treated with medication.
The other kind is situational and you can identify the reason: IE: I am depressed because my cat died; I am depressed because I can't pay my bills; I'm depressed because my girl friend left me. That usually resolves itself over time or if it lingers too long may need therapy/counseling.

This is something you and your doctors will have to decide. Antidepressants can work for some people-I take prescribed antidepressants myself-and they do help me. However, each person's chemical makeup is different, so what works for one person may not work for another. Please talk to a mental heatlth professional about your situation and they can help you figure out whether or not antidepressants would be helpful to you. I wish you well in your journey.

You need to talk to your doctor about that.
