I live in North Carolina and my hair is about 7 inches long.
It was 14 inches earlier this summer though.

Anyone can have long hair. In ancient times, long hair was considered a way to say someone was "wise." Here in America, you are free to do whatever you like with your body, face, hair, etc. So if you want to keep your long hair -- or grow it out! -- then you can do so. No one is stopping you.
And short hair on guys is just boring. I love long hair on guys, especially if it's shaggy and to their chin. My boyfriend has long hair and it's so sexy.
I hate when guys grow their hair out and then they get it cut off really short. I love long hair on guys -- it's so cute.
So if you have long hair and it looks good, makes you happy, and you don't want to part with it my best advice is to KEEP IT! Cherish it! No many people can enjoy long hair because of illnesses like cancer, or their hair is not thick enough.
Enjoy your hair while you can, because someday, it will be gone! :)

Typical American men have short hair, yes. But being a male with long hair doesn't make you any less of an American.

Sure- lots of American guys have long hair! I think your mom needs to reassess her definition of what an American man looks like, since they come in all different colors, shapes, and hair lengths.

I am in NC too, and see lots of guys with long hair. Also lots of mullets being here in the south **Shudders**-That's as American as you can get!
Long hair is cool on a dude as long as there are no bangs, mullet, or teasing going on. Both my brothers have long hair also. Tell your Momma that she's WRONG!!!

Either you are or you arn't. Doesn't matter the length of your hair. By the way, my husband had long hair when we met. All my friends thought he was a babe. And he's all American and all mine.....
