If you mean organized religion or just a belief system, a religion is just a belief system. humans have always asked questions that animals never ask not even monkeys, where did we come from, what does the future hold, why is there such wickedness and suffering, what happens when you die is there a God? who determines what is wrong or right in human behavior etc.
People will worship something, we are designed to worship, it could be money, false deities, ourselves, food, exercise, politicians, enertainers etc. you worship what is put first in your life and everything else revolves around it.
YOu can tell what or who a person worships by their attitudes, their actions the kinds of dress, grooming, what they focus on in conversations, how they treat others that sorta things. If a peson worships money there is no doubt they do if they neglect others, their health, strive after it more than they need that sorta thing. If a person worships a rock star or actor you can tell that too.
You are what you worship. ever hear the expression imitation is the highest form of flattery?, you believe the person or thing is worthy of your devotion and so you copy their behavior.
One guy on tv took his love of animals, the beastly predatory type personality to extremes. He had tatooed all over his body stripes like a tiger, even his face, and had his teeth capped with fangs like a tiger. I can't imagine if he could ever get a job except at a zoo.
Everyone needs something or someone to imulate, we need guidance on right and wrong, moral code, that is to develope what type of thing we believe in and act accordingly, some people just pick and choose among all the options available some just take what they were raised up with. Or they go by the bible, the koran or book of mormons, or even books written by psychiatrists or doctors or other scienctists or research or whatever.

I think it is personal preference, but it has been shown that people who have some sort of religion in their lives tend to live longer, even though most religion is based around what happens after you die, you seem to live longer after you have embraced religion. But, in repose I don't really think religion is for EVERYONE, cause some people want to believe in a higher purpose, while some just want to believe in themselves, both are good.

No one needs "religion", but everyone needs GOD.
Religion is mans way of reaching UP to God.
True Christianity is God reaching DOWN to man by coming to earth HIMSELF and paying the price for mankinds rebellion against Him.

I don't think so, I guess it would be nice to believe in magic.
I never have been religious, so I don't feel I need it per se. It would be usefull for someone with no family, or someone on the streets.
But it is the opiate of the masses, it makes us feel like we belong, but I don't really need that.

No. I think what everyone needs is the courage to believe what they believe without constantly looking for validation.

Probably not. I don't feel "led" but I have always felt there was something much bigger than we can humanly acknowledge. In my path it is Christianity.

No way. I will never subscribe to any religion for the rest of my life. I think deciding for myself what I feel most comfortable with and what I think is most reasonable is better than letting anyone else tell me what they think. My perspective is uniquely mine, as my beliefs should be.
