Interestingly there are 2 weapons that until recently could be said for both WW I and the present. The Army's M1911 semiauto pistol which was replaced in the mid to late 80's and will most likely be put back into the Army inventory in an updated version in the next few years and the M-2, a 50 cal full auto machine gun that has remained pretty much unchanged since it was designed. They did stop useing the water cooled barrel due to the extra weight put that is pretty much it.

In World War I most armies were armed with bolt action rifles firing full power cartridges such as 8mm Mauser and 30-06. They had some submachineguns, but they weren't used too much. Semiauto pistols were used by most, but the British kept using revolvers till after WWII. Planes were used some, both biplanes and triplanes, but mounting machine guns was tricky, and sometimes they would just toss out hand grenades or bricks. Heavy Machine guns were used too. Now, most armies are armed with small caliber assault rifles, with only the occasional sniper or sharpshooter using a full power round. Pistols and submachine guns are used less too.

Pretty much all the weapons of today's battle field were used in WWI. Of course we have made mass improvements to them. As for artillery. WWI was the advent of the recoil system for the modern howitzer allowing them to shoot more accurate. Rifles are now semi auto vice bolt action. Tanks are faster and stronger. They shoot 120mm vice 75mm. Except for computers, the weapons of the modern battle field are just improvements of the same weapons used almost 100 years ago.
