I'd like to pay off a credit card without the world (or my wife!) knowing about it. I can make good monthly payments but it's best if I deal with it asap. Thanks.

A lot of small town banks do not report to the credit bureaus.

Also some small independent loan companies do not report.

Look in your phone book and call and ask.

And yes you can tell if a credit card is paid off by looking at the bureau.

There might be some small personal loan companies that don't report to the credit bureaus but it would be pretty unusual.

You can't tell if a credit card is paid off by looking at the credit report. Just pay the credit card off.

Many lenders, banks in particular, deal in any sort of secured loan other than second mortgages. Other institutions deal almost exclusively in secured loans. Finance companies that deal in secured loans can be found in your phone book, newspaper, and increasingly, online.Shopand can get a good idea of what each can offer you in terms of interest and other finance charges and fees. Choose the best one for your needs, and apply for the loan.

Not any that I have heard of . The only type lending I know of that doesn't do a credit check on you are the payday lending companies, and they will hold your personal check until your next payday, so your wife might find out about that too if she uses the same checking account.
