Have you ever seen the movie Full Metal Jacket. If you have remember the scene where the drill insrtuctor opens up private pyles foot locker and tosses the contents all over the place. Well I had a similar situation like that in basic, because a pencil had fallen under by my locker, and the d.i. noticed something was out of place and decided to do the same thing to my locker. That was definately a low point.
The high point was the ice cream bars they served with lunch and dinner, they were really great, and "chow" was one of the few times you can forget about everything for awhile and jsut be yourself, even if you didn't have a whole lot of time to eat.

I think the low point of basic was that very first night, standing at parade rest for hours being screamed at the entire time and asking myself "What the hell did I get myself into"
The high point was being awarded the Army Infantry Blue Cord shortly before graduation from training.

Low- running around and getting smoked at 2am out in the field, in the rain, with about 2 hrs of sleep over the past several days, with a broken bone in my foot, trying to conceal my pain for just a few more days so I wouldn't get put on med hold.
High- shaking all my buddies hands and saying goodbye after graduation.

Lowest, I think was when one of the Recruit Instructors was convinced I was lying to his face when it actuality I wasn't. I was furious, but not much one can do in such a case.
Highest was the marching-out parade. When it concludes, all the crap stops there - suddenly you're treated like a human being and a soldier after seemingly endless weeks of mostly tedious, stressful training.

The high was qualifying with the rifle during a rainstorm. That was the only way to get out of the rain.
The low was getting confined to a base hospital with an upper respiratory infection. Man, was I sick.

Low, final road march (20 miles) holding in my hernia I'd gotten during week 5 carrying a guy across a field and stepping in a hole.
High, finishing that roadmarch and knowing I wouldn't get recycled and have to do it all over again.

HIGH-Qualified Expert with a M16, highest shooting score of 250 troops.
I hit silouetts at 450 yards with open sights about half the time.
LOW-Being thrown on the cattle truck with my duffle bag of crap on when I was a 129 pound weakling.
They didn't think I got on the truck fast enough.
LOW-Being kicked into a mud puddle when I didn't crawl into it fast enough.
Would I do it again? Sure.

Graduating.
Puking on my CO's boots after a CS grenade was dropped under my face while in the front leaning rest. A DI ran thru the platoon dropping several on us. What made it worse was we had our weapons over the top of our hands to keep them out of the dirt. That did not make it easy for anyone to get their mask out and on.
