A lot of atheists will just say "hey I choose to be good but I don't do it out of fear of some deity" but of course they are dodging the question which is "why be good?" Who says it's better to be good?
And if I want to be bad who's to say I can't? It doesn't matter if I hurt others. There is no judge and there is no punishment.
A world that denies God embraces anarchy, ruin and despair.

This is a wonderful question and to bad that there isn't enough time to address it appropriately since there is to much that would be involved in a good answer.
I can say that saints accroding to tradition and to those who believe are already basking in the Glory of God, the reason for the two miracles attributed to them is attested to that they are with God therefore can intercede in prayer for us. So therefore to compare Mother Theresa, saint and lover of God, whole mind, is a bit unfair, God bless her beloved soul. But to say that we know the limits of God's mercy is also erroneous, because we don't know the extent in which God views His people, His creation. we will all be judged and that is truth, we will be judged fairly, also truth, because both are found in the Bible. So when judgement comes to those like Hitler, Manson, and others, it will be just and true.
Works are as important if not more so than words or the simpleness of saying "I believe in Christ therefore I am saved", Christ did not simply state I believe in God and did nothing, Paul didn't say I believe in Christ and did nothing, Peter likewise, Mother Theresa likewise, so on and so on, they all did act upon that Love, Charity, Joy that they felt when they accepted to follow Christ, mind, body and soul.
I too am disturbed by things I read on here, and I pray for those who think that they can do whatever they wish, worship however they wish, not belong to "organized" religion because they don't need it. When all the first Christians were organized, and followed the teachings of Christ.
But I digress.
Thanks again for the question and I pray that others actually read something here that moves them, but that is hard with the hearts of many.
God bless always.

As for me I do believe in the afterlife and I do believe how we treat each other in the here and now is important. I do not believe Mother Theresa was a closet atheist, and I do believe she did a lot of work that no one else wanted to do.
Peace.

I believe in a divine punishment (the one we send ourselves to) or reward in the afterlife. I just don't believe any of us can truly judge who merits one or the other. Even the Church will not pronounce if one merits eternal damnation or not. I believe it to be presumptuous for us to say that so-and-so is now in Hell even if this individual is Hitler. We are making ourselves to be God when we, as individuals, judge the eternal resting place of another.
God Bless

Without God, nothing can be called good. It is a spiritual term.
Any pagan or atheist who says they are a good person is greatly misinformed about what the word means. Yes, they can be "law abiding" and "civil to their fellow man" but we can only do true good when we unite our actions to Christ through the work of the Holy Ghost.

that could be a remarkable question and to undesirable that there isn't adequate time to manage it accurately when you consider that there is to plenty that is in touch in a sturdy answer. i will assert that saints accroding to custom and to those who have faith are already basking in the appreciate of God, the reason of the two miracles attributed to them is attested to that they are with God subsequently can intercede in prayer for us. So subsequently to evaluate mom Theresa, saint and lover of God, total suggestions, is somewhat unfair, God bless her loved soul. yet to assert that all of us be conscious of the bounds of God's mercy is likewise defective, by using fact we do not be conscious of the quantity wherein God perspectives His people, His introduction. we are able to all be judged and that's fact, we are able to be judged extremely, additionally fact, by using fact the two are stumbled on in the Bible. So while judgement is composed of those like Hitler, Manson, and others, it is going to be purely and actual. Works are as significant if not greater so than words or the simpleness of asserting "i've got faith in Christ subsequently i'm stored", Christ did not purely state i've got faith in God and did not something, Paul did not say i've got faith in Christ and did not something, Peter likewise, mom Theresa likewise, so on etc, all of them did act upon that Love, Charity, excitement that they felt while they familiar to maintain on with Christ, suggestions, physique and soul. I too am disturbed by issues I study at here, and that i pray for people who think of that they could do regardless of they desire, worship despite the fact that they desire, not belong to "prepared" faith by using fact they don't desire it. while each and all the 1st Christians have been prepared, and observed the instructions of Christ. yet I digress. thank you lower back for the question and that i pray that others extremely study something here that strikes them, yet that is hard with the hearts of many. God bless continually.

It would have been Mother Theresa until it was found out recently that she was an closet atheist. Now you have to go with Hitler. At least he was a Christian.

We don't need a god to tell us how to treat our fellow man. We believe life is precious because it is so unlikely, we strive to make mankind the best it can be. You seek to tear it down, hold it back, and make it grovel at the feet of some made up deity.
We hold each other accountable. It is an agreement we enter in with each other. I'll grant you religion has given us a set of guidelines by which society can prosper, however many societies have not needed a god figure in their beliefs to come to this agreement.
