I am getting ready to purchase new software, getting pretty cheap through school. I was just wondering if anyone is really using the 2007 Word, etc. I had the trial but really didn't mess with it too much. Thanks.

Office 2007 is a memory hog. It is designed for system with over a gig of memory. If you have the memory, it works great - if you don't....

Note also that it is NOT backwards compatible with the earlier versions of Office. Documents created in 2007 can not be opened in earlier version, unless you opt to save them in the earlier format. (Then what is the point of using 2007). It usually takes about a year of the "lastest" version of Office to become the "common" version. If you plan to share a lot of documents with other people, and may be refreshing the PC with in couple years, you might want to factor that into the decision.

Besides those two things, the program seems to be very stable, runs well, and has some nice features. Most of the changes, however, are not features, but "under the hood" to make it more secure and stable. (Over the last two years MS had had to patch Office almost as many times as Windows itself because of security issues.)

If you do go with an earlier version of Office, be sure you go to the MS web site and get all the Office patches. Unlike the Windows patches, they do NOT all come automatically through Windows Update.

Office 2007 is very useable, espeically if you're already familiar with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.

You'll not find any major improvements over the 2003 version except that it's "Prettier" and they moved the functions to different locations (takes some getting used to).

If you're weighing your options - there's really nothing wrong with Office 2003 - but 2007 is "newer".

Best of luck.

I LOVE Office 2007, especially for writing papers. I finished two degrees that required APA style, then started another that required Turabian. The cool thing is that Wood 2007 formats the citations for you, so even if I got mixed up it would fix them. I also love the new enhanced toolbar thingy. Everything is right there on top of the page. you don't have to hunt through the menu for anything.

I've been using office 2007 at home and work for about 6 months and find it pretty good overall. It's not as intuitive as older versions of Office, but I think you'll be more than satisfied. If your getting the 'Student/Teacher Edition', you'll find it's virtually the same as the full priced standard edition.

I have Office 2007 Professional. My opinion, Slow, Sluggish, looking for features, and functions are confusing at best, not like Office 2003. Applications hang-up at launch, Application hang-up while in use, Getting Outlook to launch, send-receive is futile sometimes. I can't wait for SP1.

I will roll back to Office 2003 very very soon if no improvements from Microsoft forthcoming.

I have it, it takes quite a while to get used to it. If you buy and install it, there is an option to keep your previous version of MS Office while you are learning how to use and manage MS Office 2007. Good luck.

I have it for work- personally I prefer 2000. They "improved" certain sections so much I can't use them.
