I'm going to be really straight with you because it's important and its your future.
You shouldn't choose a career, future because of money. Many do this and end up unhappy. Especially if it is the army. It has to be more than money. It has to be a passion, a dream, and your reason WHY is the thing you should ask.
If it is money, then when things get tough, then you might want to quit. People start businesses sometimes because they want to make money and quit because it gets tough or it needs more discipline, comittment, sacrifices and even a lot of time. I mean OVER TIME from families, friends who will not understand about chasing a dream because they lost theirs.
Out of 100% businesses that are set up this year, 90% will fail, as new ones crop up. Ask yourself why? No, not recession, not anything else but planning, building a business, a future, a vision for the right reason.
The army is where you are going to oneday, I hope to God not, but it maybe so, that you put yourself, your life on the line. And when you stare death in the face - will the reason WHY, the dream, the reason WHY you chose to be in the army help you then or will you question why you ever even thought of going into the army.
It can't be about cutting costs, can't be about money, can't be about how it will be an easy life or hero patroitic life. It has to be more than this mate.
So, now, if I asked you, "if you stood in the battlefield today, bullets flying over your head, the next bullet might have YOUR name on it - will you regret the decision you made to join the army or will you stand up with pride and honour? Because there is no pride and honour in dying. There is no life after this one. There is but you then pass into the next world and no turning back."
You say, "Yes! I still will love being in the army because it is ny dream and a burning desire," then go in the army. If it's not, forget it.
Yes, forget it and go out in world and see everything possible regarding the diverse choices.
It maybe there are other things in army like administration, engineering, etc, but even this will need comittment.
Think about what you said. You have only one life. Live it to the full by living what you really want to do and not cause of money but its your passion, your dream and vision.

Joining miitary can be profitable financially, especially if you think about food allowances and medical insurance that no other job could EVER equal. If you have a family the medical benefits ALONE are almost worth signing up.
As for how good they will treat you, it is a commitment issue....if you WANT to be there you will not mind a little bitching from your chain of command. Keep in mind though that there are other branches. Personally I think of it this way: Marines are just there for the ego trip ( I am a Marine, so is the hubby) it is not a family friendly branch, nor does it give you much opportunity for base options; Army just has a whole lot of people and is just the run of the mill type of thing; Air Force gets treated the best within their units but other branches look at them as 'babies'; Navy is for those who love the ocean and boats and swimming.

go for it. it'll make a man out of you more kids like you need to join and get some needed adulthood experience. the pay is not all that bad you get allot of benefits most americans working on the outside don't get like free medical and dental, etc. Depending on what MOS or rating you get into some have very very good bonuses for just signing on the dotted line see a recruiter with your father, an uncle, or someone else you know that has been in and reaped the benefits that way you don't get smoke blown at yah cause to be honest recruiters will tell you what you want to hear and snowball you in the end don't leave til you get what you want from them.

I know a lot of people who join the army. They all have a wealthy life. The army will send you to different places in the world and you will get a lot of discounts on anything. But going to Iraq is hell! I would wait till the War is over..

The army will give you clothes, food and shelter. That's about it. It's better than working at some Mcjob (and you do get to travel all over) but as for "spending money", don't get yout hopes up. Pay grade is not far from welfare level. And I'm not kidding.

They don't call it Fun Travel and Adventure for nothing pal. If you like to Ski and party, Germany or Fort Carson, Colorado is the place to be. If you like the beach and party, then you would like Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Fort Bragg is close to Myrtle beach and the Smokey Mountains. I've heard some good things about Fort Lewis, Washington but never been there. Germany is very nice.

Personally, I would wait until the mess in Iraq is resolved before joining. If you join now, you're likely to be sent there for about a year and when your tour is up, you likely will get sent there again after a layover of as little as two weeks.

sure, you will could desire to enlist in the army to grow to be a defense force Ranger. despite the fact that, that is achievable to artwork it out along with your recruiter so as which you will enlist as Infantry, attend Ranger college after undemanding and AIT, and then probable serve with the75th Ranger Regiment. it is going to be a great form of difficult artwork, yet you're able to do it.

It shouldnt be about what someone else wants, its your decision! Even if you want money, you will have to work for it. I would suggest the Navy, or Coast Guard. because of the overseas situation.
