Ew - DO NOT keep it white. I like the idea of blue. Blue is one of the best colors for the bedroom b/c it's calming. I would actually recommend a light, bright blue, like Sherwin Williams' "cay" as your base color, and then do something really fun like paint a stencil on the wall, like this one:

in a light color, like "creamy" or "cosmetic peach."

Another really great idea is to put a wallpaper mural on the blank wall, like this one:

First off is the room a big room or just a basic standard size room? Does it have any windows or other light source besides a lamp? One thing you want to keep in mind when painting a room is the size of the room to begin with. You don't want to pick a color that will make the room seem smaller than it really is, which is what a lot of people do when they paint. Even if you don't have a lot of furniture in the room the wall color will make the room seem like it is sinking into itself. Look at all the items that you have in your room, now consider what colors you have the most of. You mention that you want to lean towards an oceany kind of scheme with the teals, tourquoise, or sea blue....the sea blue would be ok to paint the whole room if you found a really light color of sea blue. Teals, the same thing. If you go with the cranberry then i would suggest an acent wall....where you only pain one wall that color and leave the other two walls a much lighter color. Many people do this in the bedroom or living room and will put their bed or couch on that wall to bring out the bed linens or color of the couch. I personally feel that the blues would be a better bet because blues are a warming color and will brighten up not only the room but your mood when your in the room. Plus if there are a number of windows the sun light will only make it brighter in there.

How about seafoam green with a touch of cranberry here and there. You could paint it seafoam, and then use a natural sea sponge (at a good paint store) and you dip it in the cranberry, and press it here and there on the seafoam. It is really cool. The cranberry would be 'random' and not too frequent. Then maybe a swag with seafoam, cranberry and a couple other colors...some people just buy a bottom sheet with all the right colors, twist it, and hang it over the window, or behind the head of the bed.

:)

Sounds like fun to do...

I've looked up how colors affect moods...

Blue represents peace, tranquility, calm, stability, harmony, unity, trust, truth, confidence, conservatism, security, cleanliness, order, loyalty, sky, water, cold, technology, and depression.

Blue can "slow the pulse rate, lower body temperature, and reduce appetite." Blue is considered a business color because it reflects reliability

Black is the absence of light and therefore, of color.

It represents power, sexuality, sophistication, formality, elegance, wealth, mystery, fear, evil, anonymity, unhappiness, depth, style, evil, sadness, remorse, anger, underground, good technical color, mourning and death.

Green, one of most-often cited favorite colors. It represents nature, environment, health, good luck, renewal, youth, vigor, spring, generosity, fertility, jealousy, inexperience, envy, misfortune.

"Its cool quality soothes, calms, and has great healing powers." It is often worn in operating rooms by surgeons.

Red is the color that we pay the most attention to. It is the warmest and most energic color in the spectrum.

We associate red with love, valentines, danger, desire, speed, strength, violence, anger, emergency exit signs, stop signs and blood.

Red can evoke a fight-or-flight response, raise blood pressure and make the heart beat faster.

White is what we see when all colors come together in perfect balance.

It represents reverence, purity, simplicity, cleanliness, peace, humility, precision, innocence, youth, birth, winter, snow, good, sterility, and marriage.

If I were you I'd go with the sea blue or turquiose, they are more relaxing colors. Red can make you mad, and you wouldn't want to be mad all the time in your room.

Blues and browns are in right now, and less likely to get tired of than the deeper teal or cranberry. Add accents of your fav. darker colors.

Try a neutral shade and then go crazy with your accessories, they can be changed much easier then painting over a dark color. Try a buttery color, or a sage, then use your imagination on the bedspread and other stuff.
