Actually, the word that is translated as carpenter comes from the Greek word "tekton" which means a craftsman. More than likely He was not a carpenter but a stone mason since the Jews did not specialize in woodworking due to the lack of wood in the country. Whenever they needed carpenters they hired the Lebanese because they had lots of wood.
