find a non-profit credit counseling agency. there is one in NH and VT called NH/VT credit counseling services. they work with you and your creditors to lower payment and interest rates. It will affect your credit however it looks better to creditors that your working to fix it and not paying late and ignoring your debt. Try looking on-line or in the phone book for someplace close to you. Public records will stay on your report for up to 7 years if you have paid it make sure the court reports it to the credit bureau so anyone looking at your credit will know its been paid. Don't apply to multiple company's for credit every time someone pulls your credit report it lowers your score.

There are no good credit repair companies. They will take your money and trash your credit. Your best bet is to do it yourself.
Public records remain on your credit report for the full reporting period. If it's paid, it should reflect that. Send proof that you paid.
You can't remove inquiries. The normally fall off your report in two years anyway. Remember there are two types of inquiries. When you apply for credit, the potential creditor does a hard pull and those count. Soft pulls, such as you checking your credit, do not count.

No information that is correct can be removed from your credit report except by time.
Credit repairs are scams, they can not do anything that you can't do yourself for free.

oh well you can do it for free yourself.
www.creditinfocenter.com
most other places that say they can repair your credit
just rip-off your money and don't perform in a timely manner.
Federal Trade Commission website will tell you that
these people aren't supposed to ask for money until
the job is done.
