First of all shooting the cat is stupid and if you do it I hope you get caught.
Second, moth balls, cat repellent spray or pepper spray on the area where he goes, NOT ON THE CAT, will keep him out of there.

Man, don't shoot the poor kitty with a BB gun - it's inhumane, and it you're seen doing that you can get charged for mistreatment of animals by the SPCA (Society for the Prevention and Cruelty to Animals).
The cat is likely an unspayed tom cat. It's marking it territory against competitor cats. If you have a cat at home, this is the likely cause as the two of them are marking out turf. My grandmother had this same problem; the cat was coming up on the deck and pissing on a host of things to mark it territory against its rival, my grandmother's cat. After a while, she and I came up with the idea of renting a trap from a rental place. After the trap was baited, the cat was captured in no time - humanely. The local animal shelter took the tom away and there wasn't a problem since. Look in the phone book for your nearest rental shops and/or pest control places to ask them about their humane animal traps. They are very affordable to rent. And I like the idea of using the pepper around the plants as noted by the other posters.

If you SAY you're going to shoot it we have to assume you're going to do it, so don't say things like that and expect everyone to know you're kidding.
Cats don't like to poop in short grass, they prefer long grass. Mowing the lawn is an easy fix. If they're pooping in the garden, that's because they're instinctively knowing they should be pooping in soft dirt so they can cover it up. It won't hurt the plants, in fact it makes mine grow better. Cat poop isn't like dog poop that kills things.
If you have a jet spray nozzel on your hose, go ahead and use that. If it keeps to the same spot, you can always lay down some mothballs in that area, that makes cats move on, they hate the smell.

How would you like to be shot with a bb gun? If not you probably shouldn't shoot this cat.

DON'T shoot it with a BB gun!!! If you spray water on it it will still come but will only run away when it sees you. You should try buying some cat repellent spray.

YOU ARE SSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOO MEAN!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER shoot a cat!!!! That's just what they do naturally, and if you want it to stop, take some pepper, spread it around your plants, and the cat will stay away! Or you can just spray it with some water..... It's not a big deal, you do not need to take it that far you meanie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'M STILL MAD AT YOU!!!!!!!!

Call a local cat rescue group to come and set a humane trap for it. Perhaps it has a collar or microchip & belongs to someone in your neighborhood who should be aware that they need to keep kitty at home! Don't hurt the cat. It just doesn't know any better. Please call a rescue!

Pooping on the plants wont kill the plants, so you have no reason to kill the cat.
Leave him alone, he'll eventually get bored of your boring old house & leave.

don't shoot it, that can seriously hurt it. Dogs have been hurt by bb guns. if you get something light, maybe just a heavy string, and swat at it after a couple days of getting a swat across the backside when it's running away it'll give up on coming back. Just not the head or neck.
