Section One of the Catechism Of The Catholic Church says this:

"God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son as Redeemer and Savior. In his Son and through him, he invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, his adopted children and thus heirs of his blessed life."

"Love the Lord thy God with your whole heart, and love thy neighbor as thyself." That is how Christ put it. That is what the entire word of God boils down to.

The meaning of life is for us to discover that we are
true children of an infinitely loving and merciful God,
to find out what our responsibilities are to our Creator,
and to fulfill those responsibilities.

Strictly speaking, our entire meaning of life is to love God with our whole heart. But God is perfect and complete. He does not need our love for Himself. He cannot "need" anything. So what can this mean?

We are to show our love by caring for His other children, just as he has told us so many times in the Gospels.

God bless!

Your quote is good. Also use this...

"there was a space granted unto man in which he might repent...this life became a probationary state; a time to prepare to meet God; a time to prepare for that endless state which is after the resurrection of the dead." Alma 12:24

We simply walk by faith, not by sight...we wake up with a pulse and try yet again to be what the Lord wants and do what the Lord asks, knowing that we will always fall short and cannot 'earn' our way to heaven. But we also know that just by accepting the Lord as our personal savior we are given grace and a place in heaven in spite of our imperfection. Sometimes, when life is falling into place nicely, we are at peace and content with that truth...other times, when our life is more tumultuous, it is sometimes more difficult to comfort ourselves with our faith and we need to try harder. It is in those times that we are tested. I'm going through one of those hard times right now -- waiting on the Lord and finding it a little tough. It is one of those times when I wish I could just page a few chapters ahead in the 'book' that is my life...

Why don't the catholics ever consult the Holy Scriptures for these types of questions?

Ecc 12:13 ¶ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Reverence Yahweh, and keep his Laws: for this is the whole duty of man (THIS IS THE PURPOSE OR MEANING OF LIFE!).

Also where is catechism written in the scriptures? Is the church adding to Yahweh's word?

Heb 8:5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of Yahweh when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, [that] thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

The church is not keeping things according to the Heavenly things shown to us through his laws. This is an abomination!

Jam 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judges another?

Sounds like the catholic church didn't read the bible before they wrote that. The god written about in the bible was a real jerk, tormenting people, testing their faith, killing them, letting them kill each other, loving them being poor, meek, diseased - doesn't sound like a "blessed" life to me. And if god really wanted the message of jesus to get around to all people, why didn't he wait until the 20th century so it could have been videotaped and posted on YouTube for all to see? Just my reflections.

Genesis 2:15
The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

According to this verse, it would appear that our real purpose in life is to be God's gardeners....

Life is life it has no meaning it is. We bring the meaning to it. What we do is what our life meant. Purpose. To walk humbly with God to try and do his will. How well that is Done is marked by the people who have been helped along the way. That defines the purpose.
