It's a spasmodic periodic closure of the glottis followering spasmodic lowering of the diaphragm. The quickest cure is a teaspoon of sugar ( been doing it for years and it hasn't failed me yet ).

It comes from your diaphragm it has muscle spasms and that causes hiccups.
