How do you know if a guy really likes you and is actually ready to date??

I have a bunch of friends who always come to me for advice and yesterday one of them asked me how do you know if a guy really likes you? and if they do like you how do u know if thy are actually ready??

She should ask the guy to do some things together that do not seem like "dates." Lunch, ice cream, pizza, come over to play video games. He might need the signal that she is ready. Guys are shy too.
