There have been several times in boxing history when sparring partners have made champions look bad scoring knockdowns etc. Jimmy Ellis often looked good versus Ali for example but it usually doesn't mean a whole lot. Ayala Jr was certainly a big waste of talent as he chose to be a rapist and a criminal instead of pursuing a fighting career. He had a lot of potential and a hard punch indeed but of course his head wasn't screwed on right. But to answer your question, no I don't think this ever happened or at least I never heard anything at all about it or even them sparring together.

Between prison sentences? I don't ever remember Hearns sparing with Ayala. Ayala did take a huge pay off to allow the champion to fight a lower ranked contender once, I guess he was sure he would be there for the next fight, but was not around because of an appointment with a jury.

No way, Thomas is a better fighter....Both are good puncher but Thomas is way faster plus a reach advantage.
