You will be fine with the UK License. Your bigger problems will be the added cost of being a renter under 25 and crossing the border in a rental. Check the rental agreement carefully to find the answers to both. An under 25 surcharge can be over $50 a day with some companies and not all will let you take the car out of the country.
Have a great trip!

A British driver's license is perfectly valid in both the United States and Canada.

The only purpose behind an International Driver's License is to translate the information on the driver's license into the language of the country you are visiting.

Many law enforcement officers in both the United States and Canada can read the English printed on a British driver's license without much trouble.

The same cannot be said for the German driver's license.

If the rental company will recognize your license to rent in the first place, you're fine from that perspective. Both countries allow you to retain your "original" license for periods up to 90 days (basically to encourage visitors).

A possible irritant (to you) would be if you were stopped for some traffic violation in either country; the local police would not be used to seeing a UK license and might give you some grief about it until you could prove it was a "real" document.

Another potential sticking point for you would be the costs associated with being an "under 25" renter, and possible surcharges for crossing international (let alone inter-state) borders.

Yes, you should be able to use your UK Drivers License in both countries. Although an international drivers license would probably be best your UK one should be fine. Oh, and Canada is not a colony of Britain as someone else said though we do recognize the Queen as the Head of State we are fully independant and the Queen really has no authority over us.

Yes no problem. I had a car rental when I went to the US and had no probs about a UK Licence. The travel agents will tell you but I do believe UK licences are fine. Have a nice time.

so many stupid people in here. Yes, you can use them both in Canada and the US for a limited period of time, usually for 90 days. Almost all countries have the same rule for visitors, they can use their country's license for a limited period of time.

No it will not be valid in the USA. You will need to get an IDL to operate a vehicle here.

It is not valid in the U.S., but it is valid in Canada, because Canada is still a colony of Britain and officially recognizes the queen of england's authority over Canada.
