hi there when u buy a cheap car make sure there is no rust round the wheel arches or under the sikks of the car, take it foe a test drive. any knocking or grinding noises don't buy it!! a nice little car would be a ford fiesta very cheap to run and tax and cheap on parts to, try and make sure it's got a bit of service history, if you are over 21 insurance will be dirt cheap, good luck finding your dream car.

For the first year your insurance will be very high so insure for 3rd party fire and theft because the insurance will be even more than the value of the car. You are unlikely to get a very good car for £500. Go for a 1000 cc or if you can less. You do not want high performance. I have found that you do not usually go far wrong with a Ford, parts are available. It is impossible to give you a mileage but 10K a year is not unreasonable. Ask around you may be lucky and find a good little car but do not ever skip on maintenance

Well, in the UK I'd look for something simple and small. Fortunately, you have some good small car options over there. Seat Ibiza, Ford Fiesta, Fiat Uno, Skoda Felicia, Volkswagen Polo, maybe a Lada Niva, etc. These are all small cars, but large enough for your needs. Good fuel mileage, easy to park, inexpensive to insure, solid enough for daily driving.

FIRSTLY, CONGRATS ON PASSING YOUR TEST!
Now the fun really starts, keep away from dealers!!!
Look in the small ads in your local paper first.
Fiesta's Corsa's etc look out for cars that have a high mileage on the clock!
Happy motoring, get yourself on your parents insurance if you can as a named driver,it's cheaper.

hi, i am a car dealer and when my cheapskate mates want a banger i will only sell them a micra. you will get one in budget. make sure it has a long MOT but have a mechanic check for rust on front cross member and sills. these cars are bullet-proof and affordable! avoid puntos and 3 cylinder corsas at all costs
happy hunting
