Sin goes far beyond the 10 commandments. You are right, worry is a sin. Anything that separates you from God is a sin. Worry is when you take on all of the worlds junk and try to figure it out for yourself. It says in the bible that we are to cast our worries onto God because He cares for us. You know in your heart when you are sinning. The holy spirit nudges you. But there is definately sin beyond the 10 commandments.

It certainly includes more than that. Critics and unbelievers will tell you that you are judged solely on the 10 Commandments and that these 10 are folly. But when you read the law, you find that the law is not solely the 10 Commandments; there is so much more than that! There is marriage law, levitical law, disobeying the regulations for feasts and celebrations, profaning the Tabernacle and the Temple, neglecting the land, working on the Sabbath and what constitutes work, etc. But it is important in your reading to know that such an onerous law was put in place because the Jews demanded it from Moses. The error of this is that salvation is by faith, grace, and mercy, and everlasting love. But with the implementation of the law, the Jews of the time believed salvation had to be earned.

Christ is much more concerned with the heart, and that is why He died on the cross. He defines sin as anything that causes you to stumble or any actions that cause others to stumble as well. But you are not saved by the 10 Commandments, and you never were.

"All have sinned and have fallen short. . ." It is only by accepting the forgiveness that God offers through confession of your sins and moving on that you enter the Kingdom of God.

Sin is anything which is contrary to faith in God.

If you go back and look at the 10 commandments, you will find that they were only the opening page of 614 different laws or commandments that God to Moses gave at Mount Sinai. Those ten tend to cover the most common, and can be used to deal with most situations. But they are not the only laws given.

To break one of those laws is considered a "sin of commission" (you committed a wrong deed).

But the Bible recognizes a second set of sins which are commonly called "sins of omission". These are times when we know what is the right thing to do, and we don't do it. (you omit a good deed). Worry would fall into that category because if you are worrying, you probably are not praying, not reading the scriptures about how to handle the situation, and probably not trusting God to help. All "omissions" of right things you should be doing. In God's eyes, that is also a "sin".

In Romans 14:23 Paul says simply "anything which is not done in faith is sin".

I totally agree with lion of judah but would like to add the fact that the ten commandments were not the only laws given by God to follow. According to Judaism there are 613 mizvots or laws given by God to follow also. Sin is sin and God loves the sinner but hates the sin This is the reason that Jesus came into the world, to save people from their sin if they repent and follow Him. Repentance means asking for forgiveness and walk with God in a new life. Worry is in itself not a sin because everyone worries at some point or another, however it does display a lack of faith and can become a stumbling block for the believer. Also, it is not a part of the 10 commandments, the first four deal with man's relationship with God and last 6 deal with man's relationship with his fellow man.

Sin I've heard is a term meaning "missing the mark".

A human can sin by taking a deliberate action against one of the 10 commandments. Coveting, bearing walse witness and having false Gods.

An individual could also sin by not doing the appropriate action at the appropriate time. An axample would be the command to honor thy father and mother. When mom and dad get old you have to look out and care for them.

Sin is not only breaking any one of the 10 commandments but also any one of the 600 some laws God listed in The Laws of Moses.

When Jesus was asked which was the most important commandment, he said there were two--the first is to love God, and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself. All of the 10 commandments would fit into those two statements as well, if you think about it. Sinful things are those that disrespect God or harm either someone else or yourself.

It's a lot easier than keeping track of over 600 individual rules.

Worrying is not a sin, it is human nature to worry about things. Sin is all things that pull us away from Grace, so excessive worrying about things that are out of our control may be considered a sin, just like excessive drinking, eating, sleeping are also considered a sin. But to worry for instance the well being of a sick family member, the lack of love in the world, the pressing economical deprevation our world so wholeheartedly promoted, those are all legitimate worries. Not saying that you can change all these things from happening, but to worry about them means you feel for it, and in turn will try to do something about it.
To recap, all things that pull us away from Grace are sin, not only the Ten Commandments.

The 10 commandments are the guidelines to live by. All sins are equal. But the 10 commandments give you a simpler and straight forward way to live your life. There are a lot of other sins. Anything that harms your body is a sin...such as eating too much, smoking, drinking anything that is bad for your body such as soda. It gets way deep! That is why there is so much sin in this world. You try to live as much like God as you can, its very hard because there is such a thin line to walk, but you have to keep trying! Keep on keeping on!!!! =) And pray everyday for help!

Sin is an archery term before it was a biblical term which meant to miss the mark. It includes many implied laws and commandments as well.
