Avoid self medication!!!
once the bacteria get used to the anti-biotic you take the doctors might give you a higher dose.
it happened to me, last month i suffered from UTI and i self medicate and took Bactrim, the bacteria just grew and didn't cure me so i end up seeing my doctor and it took me a lot of hassle taking 2 different medicine. An i just hate it when i need to take capsules i can hardly swallow.
just drink cranberry juice and gallons of water!!!
keep your self hydrated and when you feel you need to go... just go!!!

My brother is a physician. He says AZO only helps with symptoms not the actual infection. Drinking Cranberry juice will only help with the symptoms not the infection. He prescribes Septra, Macrobid, and Ciprofloxin antibiotics for UTIs. Go see your dr or go to the ER for your antibiotics.

Self medicating is not a good idea. Chances are the zithromax is not a full cycle and is probably left over from a previous illness. Not taking a full course results in your body developing resistances to certain antibiotics.
Bactrim is usually prescribed for a UTI. Go see a doctor. You do not want the infection to make its way into your kidneys. Time is of the essence.

zithromax is used for bronchitis and lung problems not uti you can use azo over the counter at any drug store it numbs so it don't hurt when you pee
however Azithromycin is an antibiotic (macrolide-type) used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness. (webmd.com)
call the pharmacist and ask just in case

Um, even though you could (Zithromax is an antibiotic must like its cousin Erithromycin), as as long as it is not past its expiration date, you probably SHOULD (and please do) see a doctor before hand. Do this with any prescription medication you plan on taking if it was not prescribed for that incident. This is because of a few reasons.
1) You need to make sure that although most antibiotics are similar, some have certain characteristics that make it unique to each individual. For example, you can find the same antibiotic in some flavors where it is for sensitive a sensitive stomach. Some not
2) Certain drugs lose their effectiveness within a certain time frame from being exposed to light or air. Even though the expiration date may not have been met, the drugs themselves may have lost their effectiveness
I am tooth and nail about how expensive of a field the pharmaceutical industry is in the US, but when you boil down to it, its your own health - and is it worth paying the big bugs (if you have to) ? I think so.

Zithromax appears to be effective against acne. This is because Zithromax is an anti-bacterial drug, and acne is caused by a particular type of bacteria in the skin. Users report that Zithromax does a good job of clearing up their acne, which is more than several acne treatments out there can say. The downsides are the potential side effects of Zithromax. It is a powerful anti-bacterial drug; as such, users could experience side effects such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches. It can also interfere with birth control if taken at the same time. Zithromax, in conclusion, could be a powerful tool to use against acne, but the individual user will have to try it out for themselves to be sure.

i really wouldn't recommend it. you don't know how long you need to take the antibiotic to cure it, or what dosage. just go to the doctor and tell him you THINK you have a uti... it very well could be something else :-/

Just go see a doctor! They'll give you the proper medication and in no time at all you'll be healthy again! I just finished my meds for a UTI last week - and what a difference the prescription has made!! All you need is a urine sample to determine if it is in fact a UTI, then they will prescribe the correct meds.

Since you really don't want to go to the doctor there ARE some home medications for a UTI.
Go to the store and pick up a package of AZO pills. If you can't find those, there is another medication called Uristat. Should be by the yeast infection meds, typically with the tampons.
Try taking those for a couple of days, and if nothing's better, THEN go to the doctor. But if should easily clear up with one of those suggestions. Good luck

Zithromax probably wouldn't help because it is usually prescribed for upper respiratory infections, sinus infections and so forth. They sell over the counter treatments for UTI's which usually help if you treat it soon after symptoms begin. If you wait until symptoms worsen, you will definitely need an antibiotic. Drink lots of cranberry juice and take something over the counter as directed.
