Don't forget you need to brush your dogs teeth 3x a week and take the dog to the vet 2x a year to get a teeth cleaning from the vet Doctor.
You also need to brush your dog everyday if she has long hair and you need to trim her nails which most vets do for $15 every month or you can do it yourself.also small dogs need to go to a pro dog groomer once a month for the rest of their life.
you need to give her flea and tick drops EVERY month! and Heartworm gaurd.
if you get a puppy she will have accidents all over your house because she is a baby puppy and won't know right from wrong so you will be busy cleaning more often.
You will want to buy a crate to keep her in while you go up to the store for 15 min so she doesn't harm herself because no one is watching her.
You have to pick up her "doggie no no" when she is outside and put it in a bag and when she goes in the house.
You need top of the line dog food every month which is very expansive.
You have to plan on setting aside thousands of dollars incase something happens to your puppy and she needs to go to the vet for a emergency.
Whoever you buy your puppy or dog from make sure they are NOT a BACKYARD Breeer
or a PUPPYMILL!
Owning a dog is very expansive...and if you get a puppy you are babysiting all day and all night long.

I don't care if my answer gets chosen or not! You had me going, until I read your additional comments and some of your other questions, regarding this little Chihuahua. You don't keep a dog in the basement, like you say in one of your other questions! You say, you don't want to spend a lot of money {BIG RED FLAG} and you don't want your puppy messing up your house {that's not going to happen, unless you take the time it takes, to train a puppy the proper way, your puppy will have accidents}, and your not sure if you even what a puppy{ you don't sound old enough or responsible enough right now, to own a puppy}, and you want it to be nice[if trained and socialized properly with a lot of love and proper care, all dogs can be nice}! Dogs are a lot of responsibility and a lot of work. Emergencies come up sometimes, where you have to find the money, if you don't have it, any way you can, to get the puppy vet care, so dogs can be very expensive. If a dog is sick or injured and the owner does not get the dog the proper vet care, if caught, they can get into very serious trouble. Your puppy will need a high quality food, food and water bowl, bed, crate, toys, collar leash {I can go on and on}! Just remember, that this little Chihuahua, would be depending on YOU, to take care of him, train him, and love him. If you can't afford more than yearly shots, then do you think it would be fair to this little puppy, to not be able to get what it needs? I really think, that you need to wait until you are older and more responsible, both financially and otherwise, then consider getting a puppy, but only if you can care for it properly, and give it the love it needs! Until then, hold off on getting the puppy!!! It would be a big mistake, if you did right now.

I would highly suggest NOT getting a dog from a pet store. Do some research around your area and find breeders or someone selling the puppies. Check your newspaper, craigslist.com and online ads. Make sure you and the breeder/current owner have good conversation about the dog and feel free to ask whatever questions you want.
The cost will depend on if you want it registered, if it has papers, shots, and whatever else done to it.
$700 or under is reasonable for the dog.

I would say expect to pay atleast 200+ for a purebred. I would stay away from all commercial shops as they buy from puppy mills - they also seem more expensive then from breeders. Or you could look into adopting an adult dog - puppies are cute but its is so much work and time consuming. Be sure you have the time to take care of a pup so they don't get locked up all day. Pups need mental stimulation.

I think it is important for a puppy to be brought into this world by loving people and be allowed to live with his mom and litter mates. Know nothing but love they will hopefully develop a deep level of trust this will be carried with them during its life. As with many popular breeds, there is also an issue of in-breeding. There are many people who sell dogs that are not interested in this stuff, and all they want is your money.
After choosing the breed we wanted, I did not know where to get one. I found our dog by first going to the American Kennel club’s web site www.akc.org. I found a reference to breeder, and we got lucky. My breeder is real serious about her dogs, and tries to place them in the right home. It was like going on a job interview. I probably played more than going through the news paper. We have great dogs.

www.petfinder.com. But first make sure you REALLY want a chihuahua. You sound unsure about alot of info on the breed, do research to ensure that this is the breed for you and your family/lifestyle. It's very important to find a breed that suits you. Don't choose a dog based on the fact that it's cute.
Chihuahuas can range from $250.00 from a local hobby breeder up to $4000.00 for a teacup. Depends on geography and breeder or rescue.

You didn't say where you live, but there are over 4000 here.

Put the initials of your own state to see if there are any near you.
edit
Are you a troll?
Spending money on vaccines is not wasting money, if your dog gets a disease, you'll spend more money on vet bills.
Vaccines will help you SAVE money.

well if you think that giving the dog shots, and the proper medical care is "a waste of my money", then maybe you should reconsider getting a dog. they are not a one time investment.
the cost of dogs varies greatly on the breeder, the quality of the dog, etc.
