Ok. Here is the deal. I have a basement, which is unfinished. I want to make it homey and cool at the same time. Me and my sister love to hang out down there, and we want to make it cool and fun at the same time, so that when our friends come over, it is a space we can all enjoy. There is also another problem...we RENT out house!!! So, the landlords DONT want us to paint on the walls!!! There are 3 smaller rooms and one main room. The walls are all rock-like and are different textures. We already have a pool table, air hockey table, ski ball machine, bball game, bowling game, and dart board. We are willing to rearrange.....

All we want to know is how the heck can we make it more girly and fun without spending a lot of money!!! (decorating ideas, carpet ideas, etc.)

Thanks in advance!

Carpet tiles might be fun - you can get some at Target in really cool patterns or at your local Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. The advantages of these are that you don't have to have someone else install them, you can take them with you when you move, if you spill something on it you can replace just the carpet tiles that are stained, and you can rearrange them into different patterns depending on what you like (can use several colors, stripes, patterns, etc.).

For the walls - you could try changing color with fabric. You could use tension rods to hang curtains over the walls, or you could use velcro strips (heavy duty ones) to attach directly to walls. This way again, you have things you can take with you since renting not buying, and fairly inexpensive to change out if you want something different over time.

Target furniture clearances are a neat place to look for some hip, inexpensive furniture that's fun for teens. Garage sales or freecycle.com or craigslist.com can get you some inexpensive or free furniture too, and there are all sorts of covers out there if you don't like the fabric (clean it first).

Some lighting might also help - either the tube lighting you can put up around a room, or some really cool table or floor lamps.

Have fun, and good luck! (:

You can get around the not painting the walls by making a frame out of wood or PVC and putting news print paper on it(go to your local paper printing facility and get the roll ends very cheap) then paint the paper not the wall. Then hang this frame on the wall. This way you can change the "walls" as often as you want without painting the walls. You can have your friends over and have a graffiti party just don't get too close to the ceiling or floor. Better yet paint outside then put up inside. If this wont work for you try posters wall hangings etc.
Have fun and Good luck

If you have a shop vac get it out and give the basement a good once over... Vacuum the walls and floor... Get up any dust or dirt.. Give the floor a good mopping.. Put down some cheap area rugs.. They have them at walmart, home depot etc.. Maybe, put a television/video games/dvd down there... Use one room for television/video game/movie.. If you have a freecycle.org group by you try and get a used sofa/loveseat .. Everything is free you just have to pick it up... Put the pool table, air hockey etc.. in a grouping.. Sounds like fun ! Just be sure there's no mold or mildew in the basement.. Maybe get a dehumidifer..

Put a rug down and hang fabric on the walls so that you cannot see the cold rocky walls or the concrete floor, that is bound to make it feel more inviting and comfortable.

Clean it. Put a rug on the floor, put some furniture on the rug.
