Try Paint.Net 3.10, it is absolutely free and I have been using it for some time now, it is not complicated to use, there are no trials, and you dont have to add all sorts of additional crap to your computer that you dont want. It also interacts with ms paint. Because sometimes when I cant edit a pic in ms paint, I just copy and paste it to Paint.net. Or you can just save the file and open it in either program. Paint.net is fun and when you really get the hang of all the features you will be surprised at how much you can do. You may not know it but there is much you can do with ms paint too, I have been working with it for years, and I can draw entire pictures, add and edit photos. You just have to understand some paint programs in order to get the best use out of them, but they are both good. Download Paint.net today and you will really enjoy this free programs, no gimmicks ever. Praise the Lord. Would you believe I did my avatar in paint.net and ms paint, I just switch from one to the other when ever I need too. This hair style doesnt come with a hat, but I took it off one avatar and added it to this hairstyle, I made the background in paint.net, and I place new lipstick and eyeshadow on my avatar.

Gimp is really very nice and EXTREMELY powerful for a pro graphics artist. Like, it can do purdy much anything Photoshop can do.

But beware its documentation! It's difficult to find and download online. Try to find it, first, then try to read it, second. There's a book available on it, too (a big, thick sucker). It's not in plain terms (at least, for me and mi esposa). So I think, you'd better look those up, before you bother.

I happen to have Photoshop (and I have Gimp, and I have Paintshop Pro, and I have Google Picasa, which does a SUPERB slideshow), but I know there's other freebies.

Watch these other answers and don't bother giving me your points...this is just a warning.Good luck!
