Cold compresses applied immediately will reduce swelling. The blood in the skin will have to resolve with time.

Most importantly, is your vision normal? Are your pupils the same color? With trauma to the eye, the possibilities of a hyphema, bleeding into the front part of the eye, or even a retinal hemorrhage, exist. Either can have serious consequences. Consider seeing your doctor.
