this cruel and selfish being? and very cold hearted? when he isnt? God is ALL Loving and forgiving. He is not a sick being who enjoys making us suffer. we are here to learn. we mess up, but God is not going to throw us in to hell for messing up or for using our brains and questioning the Bible. why do some of you keep making him in to something he isnt?

What did Jesus mean by this?

"But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him."
Luke 12:5

How do you know what God is like apart from the Bible? I agree that God is loving, but the Bible also teaches the reality of hell. If you don't believe the Bible that there is a hell, why do you believe it when it says there is a God? Do you have some other source of revelation?

Good Question!

When I was feeling called to faith, I started studying up on the different paths to find out which suited me best. While studying the bible, and the Old Testament in particular, I read about a deity who encouraged (and even commanded in some cases) slaughter (check out the story of claiming of the Land of Milk and Honey), bigomy (Leviticus laws), torment (poor Job), and the mistreatment of nature and women (again, Leviticus). It isn't until the New Testament that we begin to really hear tales of Jehova's all encompassing love. Jehova's actions in the Old Testament and Jesus' description of him in the New didn't match up at all.

I couldn't, in good conscience, commit myself to such a being. I did eventually find a path that better fit my interpretations of right and wrong (especailly in matters of deity and his/her/it's will for me).

I don't (and can't!) tell anyone that their faith is the "wrong path", even if that path differs drastically from my own or teaches things I think are wrong. But I can (and have) chosen my path thoughtfully and find that I grow spritually from it, and that it really does encourage me to strive to be a better person.

Blessings on your way,
Rave

No you are right that he is loving and allows us to question even get angry but that is only from believers. Unbelievers is a different thing . The Holy Spirit persues us all to bring us back to the truth but when unbeleivers are constantly shutting out the truth that comes to them they are in danger of harding their hearts to the point of no return.

darling with respect... the God you know is not the same one written of in the bible
and I feel this is where most of your frustration is coming from
you asked yesterday , why people dont read what is written
there is obvious parts in the bible where God is less than loving

I totally agree that we will not be put in a place of eternal torment due to our beliefs
but the bible disagrees sweetie ...
I think you will have to rediscover who God is to you , and that may mean taking a step away from what you have known about God up until now
babe please please email me if you need to about this , because I can feel your hurt , anger and frustration as you try to work through all these questions you have

So when god killed every living thing on the planet with the exception of the occupants of the ark,he was being loving and forgiving?
I'd hate to see him in a bad mood.

The Christian god is the creator of everything.According to the Christian bible,a place of eternal torment, hell, exists.Cruel enough to spit on,right there,no need to go further.Any being who creates a place such as hell,if he existed, should not only NOT be worshiped, but actively and vehemently opposed.

Because that's what the bible says he is. As the only reference point for that god you either believe it and him or don't. It's a group package. Maybe something like Hinduism is more for you.

I agree with you and i thinks it's because they're ignorant to what God really is and what he can do in your life. Nobody ever taught them how great God can be and is. I think we just need to have more patience and talk to non-believers with logic and not emotion. God Bless!

I've read the bible. He's depicted as a maniacal, drowning, baby killing mad man. What's so loving about that?
