America is not a "christian nation".
The US, is a capitalist nation, where a great many of it's citizens 'perceive" it as Christian.
The reality is, the US, was founded by rich men and landowners who did not want to pay taxes.
Nothing has changed.
Neither any religion, nor the 'theory of evolution", should be endorsed in the public school system. The basis for determining what to teach children about the origins of life should be left entirely up to each child's parents.
More important things should be ingrained in our schools. Like how to manage one's money. How to determine what types of purchases waste one's money, and how to make wise choices in careers and conduct.
For instance, a person should be able to determine which type of automobile, will save the purchaser money and be environmentally 'green'.
Currently, many people are buying 'SUV's that are extremely wasteful. In price, gasoline consumption, and insurance costs.
If the average miles driven per year is 20,000 miles, an SUV which gets say, 10 MPG will cost the driver (at a price of 3.00 per gallon of gas) $6,000 dollars a year in fuel expenses.
Yet, if that same person had purchased a car that gets say 30 MPG, that person's fuel cost would be reduced to just under $2,000 dollars.
Obviously, with less fuel consumed, the environment is benefited, and if all drivers made the same choice, the price of fuel would go down for all.

America is a nation founded on the principle of separation of church and state, and freedom of religious worship.
Creation is not an scientific subject, but a literary subject (from the Bible). If it is taught in public school, it should be taught in a Literature class.
Many Christians do not believe in creationism literally.
If parents feel it is an important subject, they should ensure that their children receive this teaching at Sunday School.
By the way, evolution doesn't mean that men came from monkeys. It means that all life forms on Earth evolved through natural selection, and are still evolving and changing.

Shout out to Sparkles and anyone else that believes that this is something that should be taught by the family and NOT the school.
I don't want ANY ONE teaching my children about creation. They are individual people and they have the right to make up their own minds. Thankfully, they do go to church and are two truly wonderful people.
By the way, friend, the Bible states that Jesus died on the cross to secure our salvation in the eyes of God and that God is the Creator of all things.
On another note I have a problem believing we evolved from monkeys.

The whole basis of our nation is that we are not a religious state. Although Christianity is practiced by the majority, it is not the state religion. The "theory" of evolution is based on facts. I am a christian, but believe in evolution. You can't teach something in schools like creationism, which is based on faith, with no facts to back it up. If there were some way to prove creationism, then it would be fine to teach in school, but you can't.

All kids know teacher's if nothing else, know stuff right?, and most civilised peoples keep a clear!, distinct!, clarification! between Church and State. Some may hold things to be true that just aren't proven or testable, others will appose. philosophy's are rampant , people even believe because they feel stuff, or because the Bible told them so. What they believe is also enshrined in most Western Country's laws and they are free to practise and preach their views, yet the cleverest people of the time. knew the best way forward was knowledge, science, mathematics, law and the like, and those who have filled these positions of power and leadership over the years ' while plagued with faults' kept true too these held pillars of knowledge and understandings of good governance, and of course so as not to create and nation of dumb asses...

Evolution is science. Science isn't taught is schools unless it's backed up with tons of evidence. Science will never have every possible answer, but they're working on it and adding to knowledge every day.
Religion is only a belief. There isn't the tinyest scrap of evidence of the existance of any god, angels, heaven, hell, or any other supernaturals that the church believes in.
Remember, being in print is not evidence, and is far from proof.
By the way, we did not evolve from monkeys. At one point of evolution we may have been ape-like . That is far from saying that a true ape evolved into a human.

The United States are NOT a Christian Nation. First of all, statistically speaking, Christianity is a minority in the US. Secondly, look back at various treaties established in the past. It was specifically noted in some treaties that the US was not founded on Christian beliefs. This was done so and made part of formal records to convince other religions in the world that America is not a Christian Nation and therefore peace could exist between America and various other nations.
While many of the founding fathers of this nation practiced Christianity, they truly held on to their Freemasonary beliefs.
The US govenment derived from the people, not God. "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union...." The omission of God in the Constitution did not come out of forgetfulness, but rather out of the Founding Fathers purposeful intentions to keep government separate from religion.

True Science demands that all avenues be researched, in order to be called science. Politics, religion and Science Evolves, right along with Scientific discovery! Until then the questions and debates will continue to rage! To answer the other part of your question America has turned heathen! People will have to search for the truth and then regurgetate everything being taught.
Galileo ( and other Christian Scientists) was put on trial for saying the earth revolved around the sun, not the other way around. Science changes everyday and species never seen before are being discovered! To be Scientific one has to have an open mind, in order to do adequate research.

The United States is not a Christian nation. Our constitution specifically states that the government shall not establish an official religion. The word "god" appears no place in the constitution. Those of you who want to make the United States a theocratic country are just as bad as the Afghan Taliban. Learn the truth about our countries history or shut up.

Because not everyone accepts the Bible as literal truth. Also, America is NOT a Christian nation (that would make us a theocracy).
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." -- 1st Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, ratified December 15, 1791.
