I'm not convinced that it's all a blessing. I think sometimes it must be a trap and a distraction, because why, then, would Jesus tell the rich young ruler "sell all that you have and give to the poor and follow me"? The "poor" would be those who thought all that stuff was really necessary in the first place!
As a steward, your power expands, because God's ownership and power are limitless.
When you thank God for every blessing that comes your way, and you take note of a lot of blessings, then you're constantly experiencing the feeling of receiving love and giving it back, which is very healthy plus monetarily valuable. It ends up making good business sense.
The tithe formulas are good for keeping your feet on the ground. Seeing how much God loves us makes people want to give it all away, but evidently God wants us to 1) notice the flow of things, and 2) manage a large percentage of it ourselves at home.
Please note in Leviticus that the Israelites were supposed to set aside a tithe for their vacations! God loves us more than we can imagine, and knows us very well and what we need.

Why would you not believe that all blessings are from God???
Your money is your money, but God said that there should not be faith without works.
So if you only believe in Him, that isn't enough. One must do good works. Some good works do not involve money--reading to a blind person, donating to charity, teaching people to read.
I say to you to read the WHOLE Bible and study it as if your very soul depends on it BECAUSE IT DOES.
When you read the Old Testament, keep in mind that women were not allowed in churches at that time. In Micah, it states that if one doesn't tithe, then one is no better than a theif.
Women were not allowed in church at that time, so this was not directed towards women.
Read Ecclesiates. It tells us how to be happy in this flesh-life existance.
Everything does belong to God.
One must read and study the whole Bible to really get what God expects and wants from each of us.
A tithe is 10% of income.
Good luck and may God bless you.
P.S. The money you work for is yours, but the first 10% is God's by way of your tithe. Just be sure you are tithing to the right place. Modern-day ministers say just about anything to get their hands on your money.

Well you can know it because you have it. Having money is not the problem it is what you do with the money. Besides using it on yourself, help others. God gives us things to share with those in need also. Doesn't matter if it is money or a talent, it was not just meant to bless you. As for the answer above. God did not mean it was wrong to have possessions only that it was wrong to make them idols or the center of your life. When Jesus told the rich man to give up all that he had and come follow him it wasn't because you couldn't be rich to follow but because He knew the man was attached to his possessions, He was calling him on it and pointing it out to him at the same time.

I used to think that money was just money. Then one day my husband and I were as tight on money as you could get...we really didn't even have money for groceries. I went for a walk. I talked to GOD like he was standing right beside me. I didn't care if I looked weird talking out loud. I ask him for the money to take care of my family, to feed my child, to pay the bills to keep my family safe. I cried. I asked over and over again.
When I got home from my 30 minute walk, the mail was here. Money that I didn't know was due me from my college was in my mailbox in the form of a check for almost $1,000. You can bet I knew that was GODs answer to me. I gave 10% to my church on the next Sunday. By Monday my husband had been called out by his Union Hall for work.
You just have to feel it in your heart. Trust me, if you don't thank GOD for the money he gives us, it will soon disappear. I'm not sure what passage it is but I do remember hearing it once.
HE feeds the birds and provides for the flowers, are you not much more loved than the birds and the flowers?

no it is your money but He set it up so that you can get it. he wanted you to go to a certian school which you did that school prepared you for another school maybe which prepared you for your job that gives you all this money. god knew your heart. he knew what would make you decide what college to go to and what other places to go to.
eg. ever since i was born my mo has been out of work. she could have homeschooled my knowing that she woud not get a job, but she did not. she sent me to a public school where i made friends with a girl jessica. jess's sister was forced to go to a catholic middle school so jess would have to go their too. i felt bad that jess would be alone so i went their too. their we partd ways and i made a new best friend. she went to a catholic high school and we checked it out on the same day. i liked it an am there now. if i went to a public middle school i would not have. I felt God calling me their so i said yess i will go. but the problem wasw we did not have money to pay the tuition. but low and behold, my mom was able to get a good paying job and my dad fell into some money.
God knew i would not abandon my friend (jess) so he had her go to that school so that i would end up where i am now. God wanted you to have the money because He wants you to do something with it. it is your money God does not need money. you can squander it or you can do with it what you feel is right.
hope this helped

Firstly i like to say sorry because im a muslim and i like to contribute answer for your question base on human life if you or anybody dont mind.
Hard to say the money u have or get is belssing/gift from God because in human mentality can't get the answer but in human attitude can give you the answer, its mean if your be good with people and especially for your self in return should be something good as money you earn. My point is, just to be good in anything you do and trust in fate.

In a book by Don Miller called Blue Like Jazz, there's a chapter that is devoted to tithing. It also discusses the stewardship aspect that you're questioning.
I'd point you in that direction.

thats what faith is all about...all 'good' and 'bad' things come from God.
money isn't always a blessing.
i feel some of my hardest times(an I've F'n had more than my share) in my life are the best blessings because of the strength of character and empathy for others it created and you cant have a depth of pleasure without depth of pain.
god bless

How can you believe all the money I get should be stolen by the government? I earned it with my God given talents. Why do the liberals covet it?
