My doctor said it is a fat deposit and not to worry. However, lately, it's been causing shooting pain on occassion. Not all the time.

Is there a possibility it is cancer. It moves around, btw. And has not grown. I've had regular check-ups. Blood tests are normal, etc.

Never had a biopsy or ct scan, though.

Thanks. I'm freaking, btw.

HELLO THERE DANIELLE,
What you have on your back sounds like a subaceous cyst. Essentially, a cyst filled with a "cheese like" substance that, when biopsied is usually benign. My husband has one located one the back of his neck and when I 1st noticed it I freaked out.........after the MD visit I felt alot better because I was told this exact same thing that it is a subaceous cyst & it was nothing to be worried about unless it grows. Now, since you are experiencing intermittent pain in yours, you may want to see a Dermatologist to have him/her look at it just to be sure. If, at that time the derm doc feels you need to see an Oncologist, he/she will refer you at that time.
Good luck, Danielle, luv

My wife had a cyst on her back that was similar to what you described and I have a few bumps that are benign fatty tumors. The Dr. removed one because I have had other cancer, but it was as he suspected, a fatty pink thing.
Go see a surgical oncologist or a Dermatologist. Either one of these guys will have seen enough of what ever it is to know. Many Primary Care Physicians only see a few of these things and might not know. Any time you are in doubt about something in your body, see a surgeon. They have looked at it up close and personal and they know what they are supposed to look like and where they are supposed to be located.

Have it checked again. If you are not satisfied with teh result, get a second opinion.

If your Dr, who has ssen and tested this lump is confident it is not cancer, then what right does any one sitting behind a computer scren, with limited medical knowledge and no physical examination have to say anything different?

Usualy cancer is not painful like that. I would see a dermatologist and have them remove it if it is bothering you. It sounds more like a cyst to me. I think you need a second opinion of a specialist.
