I read that it originally represented the feminine. Earth, wind, fire, air and spirit. The Templar Knights supposedly worshiped a goat head and when it's turned upside down, it's supposed to represent that. (I forgot the goat head's name) Someone in Hollywood apparently spread the belief that ALL pentacles represented anti-Christian sentiment and eventually evil and somehow became associated with witches-the mean version you find in (big surprise) old movies. Not the Wicca kind.
Again, a little knowledge goes a long way. I'm aware that a right-side up pentagram is a good sign and an upside down one is not.
BTW, I saw a book in Barnes'N'Noble the other day that said it was about witches but it had an upside down pentacle on it!

Good work. Knowing what I do of early Christian history, this isn't the only emblem either. The inverted crucifix is in some circles simply the cross of St Peter, who refused to be crucified in the same manner as Yeshua because he wasn't worthy.
