Holy sacred cow....you and I have almost the same view! However, when all is said and done (Earth-wise), we will become One with Time and Space...beings of pure energy. The Universe manifest, so to speak.

"the Afterlife" ... ?

one of the greatest mysteries which humanity has pondered.

might as well include "the Beforelife" in this speculation, since *both* sides of the parentheses marking our lives remain largely unknown .... *how* on earth would ANYone aquire this knowledge?

I have my own "want to be" scenarios, but they fluctuate depending on mood and circumstance .. so are most likely illusion.

I sorta think that the Buddha said that a person would be happier putting effort into finding enlightenment in *this* life before considering what happens outside this life.

My personal beliefs:

The energy that makes me "me" (my spirit or soul) returns to the energy of the Universe, like a drop of rain returning to a pool. It does not retain cohesiveness or consciousness.

When another living thing is created, its energy / spirit / soul is drawn from that universal pool. It may include some energy that used to be "me", but not all of it. I think this helps explain how multiple people can feel they were the same person in a past life - they all got parts of that past person's energy.

I don't believe in karmic assessment or a literal idea of the Summerlands, because I don't believe that our spirits remain coherent or individual.

I believe that there is one truth....it regards energy. Energy cannot be stopped, only transformed. There is something inside of me, inside of a plant, or a bird, that is our fuel. Keeps us up and running. When our body dies, that energy moves on, is transformed into something else. Be that a bird, a donkey, a dung beetle, I don't know nor do I care. I just believe that my energy flows from me and into something or someone else.
Another thing that kinda flew into my mind when writing this is.....maybe we do live on after we die, but in the hearts and minds of those we've touched. What I mean is....if you've touched someone in a positive or negative way, you will live on in that person or persons consciousness, in a positive or negative way. Maybe that in essense is your heaven or hell....

I don't think we live on in any after life, but our energy goes back to nourish the Earth. I think that this is a sort of reincarnation, that our matter and energy will be used by other living things to help them live. I find a lot of peace in this idea.

No clue. I just lost a lifetime friend and although I have cried a few times about her death I don't feel that she has left. She called me everyday to talk because was always worried about my health. But I believe there is something after death and I want it to be worth dying for!

A am pretty much in the agnostic camp. I don't know what happens, and I wonder if it would not be a bad idea if we really did know. I think that we die and that is it, although I must say that I like yours much better, and I hope you are right!

I'm unsure. As a satanist, I am essentially agnostic in this respect. LaVey once said it was like peeking in through the curtains at a really rockin party.

To be honest, my views have changed so much over time that they're pretty non-existant.

I am curious, however, to find out why in Jupiter's moons I decided to live in THIS life.

I believe we are creative beings, and what happens after we die is what we think happens. I believe we create our own experience of the afterlife.

Terry Pratchett's "Johnny and the Dead" is an excellent illustration of this.
