I guess you have to understand what it means first.

Every cloud has a silver lining -- The cloud refers to something bad happening; the silver lining refers to something good that's hidden inside something bad.

Let's say you got fired from a job, which is the "cloud"; but maybe later you find a better job due to being fired, so that would be the "silver lining."

You might or might not agree with the phrase, though, so write your essay depending on if you agree.
