the other line from the transfer case switch goes to the vacuum disconnect housing on the right side axle tube. make sure you have vacuum there. if you don't, check for leaks or a bad switch on transfer case. if you have vacuum, you need the disconnect actuator on the front axle.

There is a vacuum shift motor on the right front axle that connects the axle shafts on the right to make the front end go in gear.
Remove the vacuum lines from the motor and assure there is vacuum.
If there is no vacuum there, go to the upper left of the transfer case and find a vacuum switch with 4 plastic tubes attached, unplug there and check for vacuum. The rubber plug that connects the lines to the switch sometimes swells up and loses the vacuum there. A wire tie cinched up tight around it will work.
If you have no vacuum there, you must trace the lines to point of origin on the air inlet plenum (intake manifold) and find the cause.
The 4 reasons the axle won't engage are:
1. No vacuum.
2. Bad vacuum switch.
3. Bad shift motor.
4. Low lubricant in front differential causing the shift collar to bind.

it could be a bunch of things.
first you may of have either tore off, broke off, or have a crack in the vacuum lines going to the CAD (central axle disconnect on the passenger side of the front axle tube).
The CAD motor itself may of have gone bad as well.
The collar the locks the 2 axle shafts together may of have snapped.
You could of snapped an axle shaft as well inside the tube.
or you may have some transfer case issues, you could put the truck on jack stands and put it in gear and in 4wd on the transfer case and see if the front driveshaft moves, that would rule out the t-case.

I had the same thing happen to me. You've got a vacumn line that has come loose. Another way to tell is if you ac will only blow out of the floorboard vents. Find the loose vacumn line and fix it. Just in case mine's got the 5.9 diesel. If your's is gas it may be different.

There are 2 vacuum lines going to the transfer case, they are routed along the main cross member under the transmission, one is black and one is red, most likely one or both has become disconnected somehow.
