Red wine starts loosing its characteristics soon after opening. Therefore, if you are planning on not drinking it within the next couple of days, then YES you can put in the refrigerator. This will extend its life so you can enjoy on a later date. Keep in mind though that even in the fridge it will go bad after about 2 weeks (depends a lot on the wine) so you cant plan on long term storage.
When you are ready to drink it, just remove from fridge and leave at room temperature before drinking.
Cheers!!

No way. if you open a bottle the best thing is to drink it. At most a standard bottle only holds 3.5 glasses of wine. Don't be too British drink it. Here in Spain I drink a litre every day, on doctors orders, it's very good for you.
However if you must keep the wine, re cork the bottle to prevent air from affecting the wine, wine does not keep well once opened, it will turn into vinegar if left exposed to air. Another good reason for drinking it !!!!!!!!!!!
Go on be a devil.

It depends. Red wine does not necessarily need to be refridgerated. It needs to stored in a cool humidity regulated area. The temp depends on the type of wine. Most often the temp is around 55 degrees. However, if it is cooking wine or table wine it does not need to be refridgerated. I would suggest keeping it out of the sun. If your house is air conditioned and you leave it in the cupboard it should be fine. If you are only worried about health concerns, don't. If you are worried about flavor, I would search they type of wine on yahoo and search storage. You will fine websites that tell you the best conditions to store it in.
I personally have 2 wine coolers from costco. One for white wine, which is stored at a cooler temp and you should finish the bottle after opening. And one for red which is warmer than the white cooler. www.costco.com Their prices for the coolers are quite reasonable.

Yes actually it should.
The only time that a red wine should ever be served or stored at "room temerature " is if the room in question is a 55 degree cave that is being used as wine cellar .
Given the choice between storing a red wine at 20 degrees below the ideal serving / storing temperature and 20 or more degrees above that temperature you should alway pick the cooler temperature because while chilling won't hurt wine , heating it definetley will

Yes.
Put the cork in it and stand it upright in the fridge.
If you are not going to use if in the next 2 days then put it in the freezer.
Keep in the wine in the fridge because it slows down deterioration, same as it does when you put food and fruit juice in the fridge. If -- as Iread it -- you're going to cook with it, then you can use it straight from the fridge. If you're going to drink it, then take it outthe fridge a couple of hours before you need it.
This question about keeping red wine after opening often comes up and as a result I have been experimenting with different methods, including freezing. Ifyou want more details, plse contact me.

If you're using it in a recipe then refrigeration might help to keep it for a bit longer. If you're drinking it you should serve red wine at room temp - never refrigerate if its to be drunk.

According to wine buffs no, but red wine keeps very well in the fridge, but opened it will only keep for about 3 days so why not drink it now?

Red wine is typically served at room temperature, so you do not have to refrigerate it, even after it has been opened.

it should not be refrigerated, unless you have a special wine refrigerator. we like to keep it a little colder than room temperature, though (around 65 degrees), so we put our opened bottles in our basement to keep them cool.

It all depends on what you want. If you still have some left over, you can re-cork it and put it somewhere dark, or re-cork it and put it in the fridge, it all depends on what you like. I can enjoy some nice slightly cooled wine on a summer day!
