Why toe tags, what if you do not have toes? Why not braclets like hospital?

Because they put the corpses in the fridge head first - if the tag is on the toe you don't have to move the body to identify it. If it was on the hand you would have to pull it half way out. Simple as that!

And because the big toe is tapered, so it's harder for a tag to slip off.

The foot is on the end of the gurney and easily located. The hand is in the middle and you need to search for it under the sheet.

Because if the body is in a mortuary fridge, they don't have to pull the entire draw out for an ID. Easy.

Easy to find at end of bed ,rather than on finger which is in the middle of the bed.
