IGNORE THE EVIL DYSON.

we had one for years and thought they were great untill we got a MELE.

they are the besy hoovers around. we have 4 cats and it sucks up all the fur and leaves the house much cleaner than the dyson ever did.

Ten years??? quality of products has really gone down -- 10 years and it is junk what a waste--just don't make things like they used to....Remember when you brought your baby home and how happy you were to suck stuff up. That was a wonderful day... Go down in history...Many things to consider when buying a new cleaner. We have matured more and now have to decide as to how many years that are left for vacuuming....Are you looking for a short time fix for $150 at WaMart..... Or will this be the vacuume cleaner of the century inshrined and be placed in the Last Will and Testimony for the next generation...The lucky person who receives this mint finely tuned professional machine will take a lot of pride when they suck stuff up... The machine I have in mind is the ACME 5000.... President and inventor is Wiley E.Coyote... Call 1-800- Looney Tunes... If Mr. Coyote is not their ask for Road Runner....
Or you can find the Kirby and check out the store -- look in the phone book... I think the number is 1-800-We Suck Stuff...
Have a great weekend---this time it is 4 days long....... .

I have a Dyson Animal, but I know what your saying about them being heavy.

I changed my carpet for lino about two years ago, which really does look like wooden floors. You can just sweep and mop it and it looks like new again.

I just couldn't cope with the cats fur anymore (and I only have 3 cats).

If your interested the lino is part of the country life collection and is called ship-deck - Teak.

Hope this might be of some help to you, at least you know your not on your own.

I got a Eureka Whirlwind Big Cup (bagless) locally on craigslist for $35. It's a power house on carpet with dog hair AND cat hair. It pulls tons of hair out of the carpet that you can't even see! Be warned though... it's horrible on hard floors! We use a broom and sweep everything onto the carpet then use the vacuum. It will save us the $35 it cost us by not having to buy bags before the year is out.

My sister uses the Dyson Animal and my mother the Miele Animal- both think they are the best! I personally prefer the Dyson for ease of emptying and moving around, but the Miele for ease of use, it not having so many "funky" bits of coloured plastic all over it! Both do a good job of picking up animal hair, and I think they cost about the same!

The Miele Capricorn with a SEB 236 PN is the best vacuum period. The Miele S5 Capricorn has an awesome SEB 236 Powerhead and it will pick up your pet hair like crazy! Not only that Miele is made to last 20 to 25 Years (and trust me they do!). I had a Miele back in 1990 and just upgraded to the new Miele S5 series so lets see that is about 17 years with pets and kids and it is still kicking. The only reason I got a new one is because I was ready to upgrade to Miele's new line of vacuums because they are much better than my old one and honestly it is nice to mix things up a bit :). But that old is still used in my basement. It has a seven year motor warranty for their new vortex motor which is super powerful. Miele is known for only making the best from their dishwashers to their vacuums everything is incredible. The Miele Capricorn w/ SEB 236 Head is Miele's top of the line vacuum cleaner. It is the ultimate in luxury, it is a workhorse and is the most beautiful looking vacuum cleaner I have ever seen. The Miele SEB 236 Powerhead is made to really drudge out the pet hair. It's has a swivel neck for maneuverability and all-round bumper strip to protect your furniture and automatic shut-off when in the parked position. It has wonderful edge cleaning and like I said before it will pick up all of your pet hair no problem. If you use this vacuum to pick up bird seed on a carpeted floor along the edges of your wall it will pick up ever piece guarantee it. You can use the powerhead on the bare floor which does a wonderful job. It feels like it is gliding with it's all rubber wheels on a hard suface. But if you want to use an even nicer tool it comes with an SBB 300-3 Floorbrush which is amazing. It has super wide holes all around and it will pick every up as well. It barely feels like you are pushing anything and it has a knuckle which allows you to twist and turn into and spot you want like behind the toilets, buffet table, couches and the floorbrush itself is low enough to get under the baseboards and kickjams. The filtration is 99.95% effective at 0.3 microns which is amazing. Thanks to its HEPA filter and super intensive clean bags the vacuum is able to achieve this kind of filtration. Miele tested this vacuum to make sure it is going to last for you, they made robots which pulled out the cord winder 20,000 times to make sure it is going to last (that is equivalent to pulling out the cord winder once a day for 50 years). They also made the machine go through threshold test, hose tests (by the way the hose handle is incrediblely nice and is crush proof), cleaning tests and of course filtration tests. This is the machine you want and is perfect for your situation.
I bought my Miele S5 from Mr. Vac and Mrs. Sew and they are selling the Miele Capricorn w/ SEB 236 Powerhead for only $999 (that is $150 less than everyone on the internet) with free shipping and no tax (because I do not live in new york). They were wonderful to deal with and they made my shopping experience a pleasant one. Here is their number (you have to call them up to get that price because that price can not be found anywhere on the Internet):

Tell Lisa and Joe Kevin told you about it.

I strongly recommend Dyson. We recently bought one and have realized how poorly our older vacuum was (we have 3 cats and a dog, so plenty of pet hair). They have a number you can call for any questions about their vacuums (I called them from the store when I was comparing models...they were extremely helpful).

I dont like Dyson. The suction is crap and it is awkward to lug around. Waste of money!!
