I have been reading genesis and I am curious why the bible only follows one line of Adam's sons and daughters. Why are the other sons and daughters ignored?

The entire theme of the Bible is "the Kingdom of God". Period. From the very first prophecy found at Genesis 3:15, it was all about how God would establish a Kingdom that would, in his time, undo everyting that Adam & Eve had just done by disobeying Him. That Kingdom would come in the hands of the promised Messiah. So really, the only lineage that truly mattered is the one that leads to Jesus Christ. For instance, Abraham had two sons. Ishmael & Isaac. You don't really read much about Ishmael's lineage do you? Just that his descendants became enemies of Isaac's descendants. There are other lineages followed as mentioned above, but it's sort of like what the very last verse of the book of John says about Jesus... That if everything he did were written down the world could not contain all the scrolls. Imagine if the scriptures were about the lineage of every child born to Adam & Eve.

Because Adam had only one seed line, The serpent also had a seed line Gen. 3:15 & his seed line produced Cain, Yes, Cain, Cain was not a son of Adam, In Jude verse 14 it says Enoch the 7th from Adam, if you try to put Cain as a son of Adam then Enoch would have been number 8. Since you are beginning to study Genesis, this may help you out to see a correct picture of what happened in the garden.

The Bible follows the lineage of the family that brought salvation to the world. We begin with Adam - Seth was the son with the promise.

In Genesis 12 - Abraham is introduced. He was the beginning of the Jewish race. Salvation came to the world through the Jews...............and we follow them throughout Scripture.

Paul took the Good News to the Gentiles in the New Testament.............because God's will had been fulfilled in Jesus and was now ready for everyone.

jewish and christian traditions maintain that there were 54 children in all, but the other sons and daughters weren't all that signifigant, especially since Jesus was born of the davidic line, which was spawned my the noahide line. in fact, melchizedek (Jesus is called High Priest of the order of melchizedek in the book of hebrews) is speculated to have been shem, a son of noah.

if a person or line is less than signifigant, it's not written about. it's like asking why we don't know all that much about ananias from the book of acts- we're only told the things that are of greatest importance. otherwise, the reader will get lost in needless and unimportant detail, and possibly miss the main focal point.

The line of Abel would have been followed but Cain killed him. The line of Seth was followed because he was righteous in the eyes of God. Read Genesis. It states that clearly.

Genesis chapter 4

25 ¶ And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: 5 For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

Read chapter 5 and you will see that Enoch and Noah came from Seth. Without Noah there would be no human race.

The better question is why if adam and eve were real people and the whole garden of eden happened and they had sons and daughters who mated and married and bore children... why are we so disgusted with inbreeding now? Trust me I would never sleep with my brother... nasty. But if we are all supposedly descendants of adam and eve therefore born with original sin and all that crap... why is it so taboo now? Why because it is a bunch of crap.. its a story to scare little kids and big idiots into thinking... "i need to do what the church tells me, or I will burn in a hell" (or hades which was a sulfer pit out side of Jerusalem)

I have to laugh at some of the crazy answers in this forum by non-christians but hey! I guess they have an opinion that isn't going to rattle my faith.

The bible follows the genealogy leading up to the birth of the Messiah in the New Testament.
The first 5 words John wrote in the book of Revelation 1 was ...The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

The bible is about revealing God the Father through His Son Jesus Christ hence the family tree that follows this line to the birth of Christ, His death and resurrection and the things that are to come.

I guess ignorance is bliss for some people like RandiW. To answer the question about the so-called incest; God said to Adam and Eve to be fruitful and mutiply and He blessed them. It is important to note that Adam and Eve were blessed and so were their children after them; interesting also to note that incest was not really known until the time that God gave Moses His commandments in Leviticus 18. I believe God allowed this to a point in time where it was no longer a blessing. God understands the genetics of mankind that at this point in time He declared His Commandments to Moses to instruct the Israelites to cease from these acts for it was no longer a blessing to do so for the proliferation of mankind on the earth. In a nut shell the knowlege to not sleep with your kin came from God not atheists.

Great question! The answers to all your questions about Adam and Eve and everything else in Genesis can be found in the book Adam and Eve - A Tragic Love Story. This is a serious and scholarly book (it's fun, too) and I highly recommend it. Good luck!

Only the line through Noah was viable in a direct sense.

So why bother. It is somewhat interesting that Cain's line is given some attention. They were obviously gifted with more than a temper.

After Adam and Eve sinned, God promised to send a Savior to redeem them from their sin. The Bible follows the promised line to its fulfillment in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
