Interesting story....note, the last line

"Roger J. Kuhle, an assistant Polk County attorney, argued that the issue is not for a judge to decide."

Who should decide this issue then?

It only affects two consenting adults...shouldn't the two consenting adults involved be the only ones to decide if they should marry? Why is society involved at all...what business is it of yours who I marry, as long as we are two consenting adults?

Doesn't God give everyone the freedom of choice? He does not force salvation on anyone...remember the painting of Jesus, standing at the door and knocking? There is not a handle on his side of the door...he stands at the door and knocks ...and anyone who asks/lets him in then is saved. God does not "force" himself on anyone, he leaves it up to the individual....so why are fundamentalists trying to "force" their views on others?

Your thoughts?

And please, we don't need the scriptures, we all know the Levitical codes, 1 Corinthians 6:9, Romans, etc...we know what the fundamentalists opinon of interpretation of these scriptures are.

The question is....why do you force your views as a fundamentalist on others? Trying to make into law something that has no effect on you or yours....again, the only two people affected by gay marriage, are the two entering into the marriage.

This is precisely an issue for a judge to decide. That's why we have judges. That's their job. If the ruling went against gay Americans, Mr. Kuhle and others would be praising the judge.

As you know, this is not the final ruling in Iowa. It will be appealed by the State to the Iowa Supreme Court. If it wins there, radical anti-gay activists will start a petition for a ballot initiative to change the State Constitution to ban gay marriage. If we are lucky, a domestic partner/civil union type arrangement may be created in the state for gay Americans.

Anti-gay Fundamentalists believe only their views are right. With that in mind, they believe everyone else in the U.S. should have to live under laws based on their religious interpretation, whether we want to or not. Their only concern is power and influence and their pride keeps them from seeing that this is not of God.

Fundamentalists want to have the special right to discriminate against gay people. They also believe that heterosexuals should have special rights based on whom they sleep with. Marriage is an example of a special right they demand for heterosexuals only. I don't think anyone should have special rights based on their sexual behavior. We should all have the same rights since the U.S. Constitution says, "All men are created equal."

I would say that it is between you and your mate whether you want to create a bond in your hearts and a commitment in your lives. However, when it comes to a legal issue, such as a legal marriage with its corresponding benefits that taxpayers provide for, then it is up to the taxpaying voters to decide what is a 'legal' marriage, as opposed to your personal commitment to each other.

So, when the majority of voters decides that gay marriage is not a 'legal' marriage, then it isn't about 'forcing' a fundamentalist view on you, its just the people voting according to their own individual beliefs. That's what a democracy is all about. Some people believe that gay marriage is OK, and some don't. The majority seems to be the latter, at least as a legal entity.

Word of advice: Man's law doesn't define your heart. Live according to your heart, and try not to break laws (life is more pleasant that way)

I was so happy to see that article! Though I am not gay myself, I am an advocate of gay rights. I have yet to understand how people can force religion in the law of a country that prides itself on it's seperation of church and state - the fundamentals the United States was founded upon! A marriage license is a document issued by the government - not by a religious donimination. It the the right of a church or religious body to refuse to marry a gay couple, I will not argue that - but the LAW cannot refuse them! Everyone (gays, lesbians, blacks, whites, disabled, and abled) is EQUAL under the law! Therefore, the law should protect every human individual and allow everyone the same right to marriage!

G.C,
If people want to marry the same sex and they lobby for it, it will definitely be granted at some point. That is not the issue here. We Christians are struggling to keep this society from being hoodwinked by precarious ideas that we loosely refer to as sin. You seem to care at some level what the Lord wants so that means you are in a serious struggle.
Remember in the Garden when Eve told the Serpent that eating the fruit of The knowledge of good and evil was forbidden by God? What was the Serpents reply? "You won't "surely" die...you will become wise like God".
The result is the world we now live in, wars, decease, hatred and yes same sex marriage. Sin is communal and it seeks to destroy the "Whole" community. God blessed the union of a Man and a Woman, anything else is taking us further down that slippery slope of misery.

Any law or whatever banning gay marriage is unconstitutional and hence illegal.

In the words of Justice Jackson for the U.S. Supreme Court in West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, [319 U.S. 624 (1943)], "The very purpose of a Bill of Rights was to withdraw certain subjects from the vicissitudes of political controversy, to place them beyond the reach of majorities and officials...fundamental rights may not be submitted to vote; they depend on the outcome of no elections."

marriage is a fundamental right..hence to deny it is illegal, unconstitutional and unAmerican

I believe that you have the right to marry whom ever you want. The point of "it's not God's way", yes that is right God wants to forbid you from being happy. God made you one way and is now going to punish you... yes makes a lot of sense to me. And the decision to let a bunch of rich guys who cheat on their wife with men and women make decisions on abortion or marriage is never a good idea.

There will never be a winning answer to this fight. People who think marriage is only between a man and a woman will never be happy unless the subject gets dropped, and people who support it will never be happy until everyone has the rights that a "real" couple has. I say make it legal, stop denying rights to people because of your religious views. Stop telling people they are walking with God because they love someone of the same sex. Stop judging people like so many people are taught but do not follow...

I personally think that marriage is defined between a man and a woman.

I believe that two people of the same sex can form a civil union and get the same rights and protections of a marriage under the law.

It is unconstitutional for it to BE illegal. Equality. Equal rights for all citizens as long as they are not harming some one. No one should be able to decide that another person has less rights. By saying they don't have the right to get married, that is taking away the rights of a specific group. That is discrimination, and that is illegal.

Bravo for the judge.

Making religious beliefs into laws has always been a bad idea. Let those who find it to be against their religion not do it. Why do they want to force others to live by their religion?
