The main purpose of chemotherapy is to kill cancer cells. It is usually used to treat patients of any stage of cancer that has spread from the place in the body where it started (metastasized). Chemotherapy destroys cancer cells anywhere in the body. It even kills cells that have broken off from the main tumor and traveled through the blood or lymph systems to other parts of the body.

Chemotherapy can cure some types of cancer. In some cases, it is used to slow the growth of cancer cells or to keep the cancer from spreading to other parts of the body. When a cancer has been removed by surgery, chemotherapy may be used to keep the cancer from coming back (adjuvant therapy). Chemotherapy also can ease the symptoms of cancer, helping some patients to have a better quality of life.

The main goal of chemotherapy is to cure cancer. Many cancers are cured by chemotherapy. It may be used in combination with surgery to keep a cancer from spreading to other parts of the body. Some widespread, fast-growing cancers are more difficult to treat. In these cases, chemotherapy may slow the growth of the cancer cells.-

. Stages 2 and 3 are not terminal. I accepted chemotherapy with stage 3 cancer because the expected (not guaranteed) improvements to my survival chances were worth it. Three and a half years later I am well (as far as I know) and in remission.

If my cancer metastasized (stage 4, terminal), I might come to a different decision depending on the projected outcome.

'Cancer' is not just one disease, it is hundreds of different diseases. Some cancers are now curable - not thanks to vitamin C or herbs or any other unproven treatments, but thanks to years of research by the very people some here are accusing of a conspiracy. Still more are not yet curable but treatable enabling people like me to live for many years.

Researchers, doctors etc get cancer at the same rate as the rest of the population, so do their families. Why would they want to suppress a cure? A cure for cancer would bring fame and fortune - why keep quiet about it? There is no cure of all cancers and no conspiracy to hide one.

When faced with cancer we are faced with diferent choices.

We can choose to treat or not treat and let it runits course.

If we choose treatment, we are recommended surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, either singley or in combination.

Each of these treatments will have some risk of side effects, and have a predicted statistical chance of benefit to some degree.

Sometimes the benefit is slowing the cancer, sometimes stopping the cancer, sometimes reducing the cancer, sometimes even eradication of the cancer, or possibly only reduction os symptoms.

Each patient has the option, after being advised of teh risks and possible benefits of choosing to accept treatment, and if so, how much treatment.

If patients choose to accept treatment to slow the progress of the disease or alleiviate symptoms to give teir families and themselves more time to come toterms with the inevitable then that is their choice.

Unless you have faced that choice yourself, you are not in aposition to make that decision for them.

Actually, it is of use to 2, 3 and 4th stage cancer patients. It extents life and improves quality of life for most.

Additionally chemotherapy doesn't always have drastic side effects. Losing ones hair for a while is dramatic, but it comes back. Other side effects are usually similarly repairable. Being dead is drastic, and permanent.

I believe that the doctors don't just want to send someone home and say "sorry go home and die." They are doctors and they want to save lives, so, they do what ever they can. I guess they think may be just may be in some cases they will win. It also helps the cancer patient feel like something is being done to save their life. It could very well give them hope for a cure. I really wish doctors would embrace holistic remedies. They really work better than chemo.
I'm one of the lucky ones I was healed of cancer 14 years ago, thanks to a merciful God.

Hope of curing in some case and prolonging life in most case, so the person can take care of loose end and see the loved ones and visit them or have them visit.

It is good opportunity to try any thing and hope some thing will work.

This is the solution and doctors and the patients are all always hoping for a miracle.

Why waste lachs of rupees on the most agonising pain causing and body shattering chemotherapy when a patient can get substantial to near total relief by doing meditation for two hours daily through the process of self-realization under the guidance of an experienced spiritual teacher. The patient can feel positive results from the first fortnight itself of doing such meditation.
The problem is that in today's world, people have time to spend hours and hours together listening to the advice of money spinning doctors, spending days and days together in hospitals paying hefty bills, lying in bed in their residences for months together like chopped vegetables but can find no time in knowing the cause and cure of their bodily disorder by getting their spirits/soul awakened and allowing the latter to do the cleansing/curing work.

Life is precious. Nobody wants to die. Very few people will accept the fact. When my mother was diagnosed for breast cancer and it was in second stage, we did not go for chemo. We gave her alternative therapy like homoeopathy and Ayurveda from time to time symptom based for relief. She lived for six months and died peacefully. There are many algternative therapies which will reduce the suffering and give a peaceful death.

All are aware that any treatment is salvage therapy.

It is also equally well known that as medical professional, any doctor is required to treat a patient coming to him/her, irrespective of out come.

In allopathy, only three methods of treatment are available viz. chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. In case any patient approaches doctor of allopathy, he/she has to offer such patient available method of treatment.
