If you still have the 9000 in your bank accounts then it may well affect your job seekers allowance. they take into account any savings you have on the basis that you should use them to support yourself till you find a job. If you have no money then you should get the normal rate. When you meet with a job centre adviser they will go through it all with you and will be able to tell you how much you will get. You should be able to claim job seekers whilst you are doing your course. Tell them that your doing it though. Its a course that will improve your chances to find a job so that helps. Just let them know that you would be giving up the course if it clashed with a job and you should be ok. I think when you sign on you would have to declare the course. I did voluntary work when i was claiming and i had to declare that.

I think it's over 25 hours per week to be classed as full time student (actually I think it's more like 30 hrs but just to cover myself). Part time studies, so long as you're not getting loans for studying part time, still leave you able to claim full jsa.

Not sure how much you can in the bank before it affects your claim. it's a good few grand if memory serves.

Although as it's a student loan - you can always pay back any amount that puts you over the threshold. You'll have to do it eventually anyway

If the £9000 is debt then that will not effect your claim. If you still have it then you may qualify for a reduced rate of JSA.

As for your part time studies, you can study up to 16 hours per week and still claim JSA. So 4 hours a week will be no problem. Check out

Be careful when declaring your course to them! I thought I was doing the right thing when I told them I was doing one and they tried to stop my money. It was 2 days a week, 9-4 so I could still have taken on a full-time job, but I had a lot of hassle from them before they relented and gave me what I was due!

Yeah. It is a measure of how much you need to live on (whine!) agianst how much you have in savings. Debts do not count.
