"The real question is why do you wish to know?" - LMAO. No, the REAL question was given, you are free to answer, if you know how :-)

Ha, Yoho! You are right, if i wanted to set them off it'd be easy enough!

Just for info. - i want to make a laser demonstration of holograms using a volumetric diffuser. I was using dry ice, liquid nitrogen and experimenting with things. Then i considered a smoke generator but since i'd rather not have the building evacuated, i asked the question...

Unfortunately i've no data sheet with the liquid so don't really know what it is made off. But its 700 W generator supply, so i guess it boils if not burns the liquid. There is a slight tinge of alcohol smell perhaps pina colladas though never tried the stuff!

Yes.

My friend, a sound and lighting engineer, says it has happened to him. It ruined a stage production when the alarms went off and the sprinkler system kicked on.

Whenever he uses smoke in a public building (same class of stuff you use), he calls the local fire department to get the necessary permits and permissions to temporarily shut off the smoke detectors. Of the situation I mentioned above, his assistant failed to contact the fire department that time, so now he does it himself everytime.

Likely it would but a test would be required (or contact the manufacturer). One type of smoke detector shines a light on a photoelectric cell and alarms if the steady-state beam is reduced (by smoke). A common smoke detector uses a small radioactive source to ionize air between charged terminals and detects a sudden change in ionization (from smoke, etc.). This type can alarm even when there is a sudden change in fresh air. Of course density of the 'smoke' will affect the results. BTW fog makers usually use a dilute wine and do not produce smoke.

more than likely he is going to have a party :) If he wants a way to set off a smoke alarm start a bucket of paper on fire lol

anyway if the smoke is on the ground no. I used one with a generic smoke didn't have a problem but it was only on the ground.

If you get it into the air by the detector yes it will if you use the type that fog up the room. My alarm i have by my bathroom will even go off if i steam it up to much taking a shower.

If you're talking about the stuff that smells like pina colladas, then no, I don't think so - more of a cold, damp fog than smoke anyhow :)

The real question is why do you wish to know?

It seems to me you are looking for ways to set off alarms and create disruption.

Sorry I won't be a party to this
