Until WE start fighting these things at every point, they are going to continue to happen.
WE need to educate the public to the fact that these dogs are great dogs and WE are responsible owners.
More to the point, WE need to assert OUR rights with politicians. You vote for these types of laws and we'll do everything in our power to get someone else elected.
Here in the states, a local community passed some pretty restrictive laws about ownership of certain breeds. They couldn't ban the breeds because of a state law.
All of this got started because of a woman who was a fanatic and her lawyer husband over an EIGHT WEEK OLD PUPPY Rottweiler that the people next door had purchased.

I'm sorry but i have seen staffies being trained in our local park and i can only think they are being trained to fight, i love the staffies and my neighbour has a gorgeous girl, it's the stupid idiots who do this and most of them are young boys they seem to think it's OK for there dog to terrorise your dog and yourself, I'm afraid that now if i see boy's in the park with there Staffies i walk out because i won't put my girls into danger just for there sport, i would hate to see them banned as pets because of the mindless few.

staffies are by nature a tenacious breed and need little or no training to be aggressive, my 3yr old female staffy can be as gentle as a lamb but can also go into attack mode easily and this needs a lot of patient training to control,I dont know what pleasure any one can get from seeing two dogs ripping each other to bits but I would hate to see breed standard legislation introduced in this country, Knee jerk reaction like in germany only drives the problem underground and into the very hands of the people we are trying to stop, as with the ban in dublin, is it only council tennants who have unruly dogs, I think not,The problem with this country is that it passes laws on animal welfare but does not have the people in place to oversee them and relys on charities like the RSPCA, bring back the dog license, £100 a year per dog to pay for wardens in local areas, make insurance and chipping compulsary and then register and license all breeding, it wont solve the problem overnight, but in time will make a difference to all the strays and unwanted litters you see advertised every day, and maybe even stop all this inane cross breeding that is going on.

My state is facing a breed ban right now, and I fight tooth and nail for my dogs (altered, well cared for, and obedience traied). As much as it saddens me, and as hard as I fight against it, if that's what it came to, I would have to comply....not without a fight, but comply nonetheless. The masses are mostly uneducated about the true history and temperment of the breeds referred to as pit bulls, and though unfortunate, the odds of people changing their minds are slim. I would NEVER want to give up my three dogs...they are really the loves of my life....but I can't go to jail either. I am disgusted at the level of irresponsible ownership of dogs in general, but ESPECIALLY with bully breeds...people parading them around like trophys to look more macho....it makes me sick.
I love my dogs, and I'm a huge advocate for bullys and against BSL. If not the Pit Bulls and Staffies, it will be something else. Next they will ban the Labrador or the Goldens because people are making them viscious. BSL is a quick (and temporary) fix to a much bigger problem. What is needed are stricter leash laws, harsher punishment for animal abuse, and a crackdown on BYB's, petstores, and underground fighting rings. People are the problem...not the dogs.

No, this is not going to happen. The UK has seen that breed specific legislation does not work and is not enforced.
Anyway, staffies are not used as fighting dogs!

no way will anyone take my baby from me she means more to me than my husband does and is far more better tempered.responsible owners do not allow their staffie to be used for fighting and how the people that can actually take a dog and watch it fight to the death call themselves "HUMANS" i do not know they are sick& perverted and worse than animals themselves because animals only fight in self defence i would seriously like to put these inhuman bas****s in with a pack of dogs and let them get torn to bits for someone elses fun, maybe that makes me no betterthan them but i happen to be an anlimal lover and i hate to see any animal suffering cruelty.

I personally would choose to live in a tent rather than part with my beloved Baby Blue.
Here in the US, there are states and cities I would love to visit - but they ban pit bulls. I not only avoid them but boycott their businesses like the plague.
If I had to choose between living in a Nazi state or leave, I'd leave.
And to our friends and neighbors in Germany - heed this warning! Don't be fooled by Fascists and Nazis trying to disguise this kind of legislation as "in the interest of public safety." Remember-Hitler ruled Germany not that long ago. Today it is your dog. Tomorrow it will be YOU.

A responsible owner already do not allow his/her dog to involve in an unpleasant incident and takes all the precautions necessary. So I would not allow my dog to be terminated.

i watched that programme last night on fighting dogs. ive got to be honest, im no lover of dogs, the staffs and pit bull types especially, but, i think that the cruel ba*tards who subject the dogs to this type of torture are ruining it for everyone else.
i would never have one of those dogs, cause i have a child, but for people who are responsible enough to look after their dogs, i think it is really bad that in the end, they will be the ones to loose out.
