I'd go with what everyone else has said so far--good luck finding a place in Brooklyn for that price range, let alone good schools as well. There are many great neighborhoods in Brooklyn to raise a family, but rent in those neighborhoods usually start at about $2500.
I'd try Staten Island or Queens.

good luck in Brooklyn finding a place to rent in that price range with a good public school.....Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Park Slope Willamsburg, Bensonhurst, Boerum Hill,
Brighton Beach aka "little odessa" dumbo, Cobble Hill ,Down town......You should try Staten Island or Queens

for that price, its hard to say.
Bayridge is nice, but may be expensive for you,
Sunset Park is acceptable, but i dont know what their schools are like
Avoid Brownsville, East New York, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights.....these neighborhoods are notoriously rough and not really good for families.
Honestly, Queens is better for families. Rego Park, Forest Hills, Maspeth, Middle Village to name a few are accpetable
