In general, scientists develop new technologies and materials while engineers put them into practical use. That's not to say engineers can't develop new things and scientists can't find practical applications - they can.

For example as an engineer I don't look to design my own materials - I look up what's available and pick the best one for what I the application I'm working on and have to do calculations to ensure it will work.

A scientist works to increase our total knowledge. An engineer takes that new knowledge and develops practical applications.

Scientists try to understand what happens. Engineers try to put that information to use.

Scientists deal with facts, while engineering is a matter of impacting people's lives.

I hate to be crass, but a scientist discovers how a thing may be done, after which an engineer determines the cheapest way to do it safely.

A scientist studies its effect when it is in operation.

an engineer is ore about the application of the combined science and mathematics. he/she is more on planning and supervising/facilitating those applications

WHILE:

a scientist is a researcher... he is not working for the application of science but the IMPROVEMENT in science... they do not facilitate different projects but they are the one who experiments on different things to discover new things
